Marketing Workshop kicks off new BCL season

MIES (Switzerland) - The Basketball Champions League Marketing Workshop, with the participation of the clubs that will compete in the 2023-24 season, came to a close on Wednesday at the Patrick Baumann House of Basketball.

The two-day workshop aims to provide insights into digital content creation and digital marketing techniques, tailored to the needs of basketball clubs.

"As we're about to embark on our 8th season, our Marketing Workshop has by now been established as a standalone event of the season calendar in its own right, and our clubs look forward to actively participate in it," BCL CEO Patrick Comninos said.

"The valuable tools and methods we put to their disposal so they can continue their digital and commercial growth is only one part of the workshop's success.

"Even more importantly, the workshop serves as a hub to exchange ideas and it enables clubs that have been part of our competition since the first season to share knowledge with newcomers, work together and grow together. The BCL has been since Day 1 a competition for the clubs, driven by the clubs."

One of the newcomers this season is Italian club Bertram Derthona Tortona, who will take part in a European competition for the first time in club history, after conquering third place in the Italian Serie A last season.

"It felt like an honor to participate in an activity together with historical European clubs like AEK Athens, Galatasaray or Unicaja Malaga. The BCL organization is of the highest level and it felt like the first day at school, very beautiful and very important for the development of our club," commented Derthona Club Manager Giacomo Carrera.

"It will help us grow, to come in contact with concepts outside the Italian reality, exchange ideas on international level and to increase the basis of what we offer to our sponsors and in terms of fan engagement."

This year's edition of the workshop included, among others, presentations by Duygu Coskunseda, Sports Content Partnerships Manager at TikTok Turkey, the Scorestars team, which is the company behind the newly-launched BCL Fantasy, and by Vaidas Leliuga, Head of Communications at the Lithuanian LKL league.

"The presentation of Scorestars was so interesting because it's virtually unknown in Italy but the European numbers they showed us were really impressive. We will try to develop it and I think it can work well in Italy," Carrera said.

"The Social Media part stood out for me, especially Tik Tok which is not considered as valuable in Italy as it is elsewhere in Europe," said Derthona Project Manager Giulia Pesino.

"Sassari is a perfect example that if you work with the correct instructions, you can achieve results also in Italy, because they monetize it very well and have reached big companies like Ryanair. So, when you meet people who have such experience, you learn a lot of things."
