MIES (Switzerland) - Tuesday belonged to Germany. Wednesday was for Spain. Lenovo Tenerife and Unicaja joined MHP RIESEN Ludwigsburg and Telekom Baskets Bonn as the teams that have secured a berth in the Quarter-Finals with a game to spare.

Unicaja outlasted Tofas Bursa early in the day, winning the final 100 seconds of the game by 9 points to remain the only unbeaten team in the Round of 16. With an 80-76 win, Unicaja secured not just the Quarter-Finals, but also a place among the seeded teams in the Quarter-Finals draw.

Finishing top of their group will now also become Lenovo Tenerife's objective, especially since they won their 20th straight home game in the Basketball Champions League.

Pinar Karsiyaka arrived in the island without two of their biggest stars in Vernon Carey Jr and Darrun Hilliard. Still, they put up quite a fight, staying within striking distance from the hosts for the full 40 minutes, never allowing Tenerife to break away.

At the same time, coach Ufuk Sarica could not find the magic potion to get in front of Tenerife, and the two-time champions held on for a 88-79 win.

Kyle Guy had 17 points, Marcelinho Huertas did a bit of everything with 16 points, 8 assists, 5 rebounds and 2 steals, and Tim Abromaitis picked the perfect timing for his BCL season-high, knocking down all four of his three-point attempts to finish with 14 points.

Errick McCollum had 22 off the bench for Karsiyaka, but they are out of the hunt for a spot in the Quarter-Finals. Tenerife will finish first in Group K if they defeat Peristeri bwin on the road next week.

Peristeri have their own math assignemnt. With Tenerife winning, and coach Vassilis Spanoulis leading the Greek side to a 76-61 triumph against Hapoel Bank Yahav Jerusalem, the door to the next round remains open .

Joe Ragland had 16 points and 10 assists to post his all-time-leading 15th career double-double in the BCL, and he kept feeding Trevor Thompson who delivered a 10-point, 11-rebound performance.

Speedy Smith, with 10 points, was the only player in double digits for Jerusalem.

 
Hapoel will play against Pinar Karsiyaka in Laktasi, Bosnia and Herzegovina next week. A win by any margin sees the Israeli giants through to the next round, while they will even finish top of the group if both Jerusalem and Peristeri win on the final Gameday.

The other Hapoel was also in action on Wednesday. Hapoel Holon spoiled what was supposed to be a UCAM Murcia and Promitheas Patras party in Group L. A 93-92 road win over Promitheas prevented the Greeks and Spaniards from advancing to the Quarter-Finals with a game in hand.

Instead, Holon could reach the Quarter-Finals with a win over UCAM Murcia. If they win by 26 points or more, they are through no matter what happens in the Promitheas vs AEK BETSSON BC matchup.

If AEK end up victorious in the all-Greek matchup, then a Holon win by any margin will send the Israeli side to the Quarter-Finals.

Finally, in Group I, SIG Strasbourg stayed alive with a 96-84 win over Cholet Basket, their first in the Round of 16. Strasbourg will need a lot of help from Unicaja next week, in order to force a three-way tie with Tofas and Cholet at 2-4.

Tofas meanwhile know that a win by any margin over Strasbourg puts everybody's calculators back into the drawer, because the Turkish team would then join Unicaja in the Quarter-Finals.
