Pako Cruz powers Tofas Bursa to give SIG Strasbourg first loss

STRASBOURG (France) - After losing their last game at home, Tofas Bursa came out and got back in the win column and handed SIG Strasbourg their first loss of the Basketball Champions League season 76-74.

Bursa jumped out to a 15-0 lead to begin the game before Strasbourg finally got on the board.

Despite only losing by two, Strasbourg was playing from behind most of the game due to that big hole they got into in the beginning of the game.

If they played the way they did after the first quarter, maybe the result would have been different.

Turning point: Strasbourg tied the game at 68 with a little under four minutes to play, but couldn't get over the hump to take the lead.

A three-point shot by Jaromir Bohacik cut Strasbourg's deficit to 74-75 with 15 seconds left.

After Bursa went 1-of-2 at the free throw line, Strasbourg had a chance to win or tie the game, but Tony Crocker turned the ball over, ending the game.

Game hero: Pako Cruz scored a personal season-high 23 points with 3 rebounds and 5 assists on 7-of-13 from the field and 3-of-8 from three-point.

This is the second game that Cruz has led Bursa in scoring.

Stats don't lie: Bursa forced 17 turnovers and scored 23 points from those turnovers which proved to be key.

In such a close game, free throws become a big factor and Strasbourg only shot 56.3% (9-of-16) from the line compared to 83.3% (10-of-12) for Bursa.

Bursa led for 36:24 compared to 1:34 for Strasbourg, but the game was a lot closer than that wide time differential, as there were eight lead changes.

Bottom line: Strasbourg and Bursa are both now tied at 2-1 in Group F.

Bursa is in first place thanks to currently having the head-to-head tiebreak over Strasbourg.

The two teams will face each other next on Nov. 10 in Bursa, Turkey.
