Another overtime thriller: Jonah Radebaugh sends Galatasaray down to 1-3

LUDWIGSBURG (Germany) - MHP Riesen Ludwigsburg's guard was the MVP of October in the Basketball Champions League, and half a year later he's still impressive. Jonah Radebaugh had all the answers against Galatasaray Nef in Germany, including the game-winning shot in the overtime.

His heroics outweighed what Melo Trimble was doing for Galatasaray, and a 76-71 win in the Game of the Week means that MHP Riesen Ludwigsburg are leading in Group I with just four games remaining, while the Turkish juggernauts are at the bottom.

Turning point: Ludwigsburg led for more than 38 minutes in this one, but almost let a nine-point lead turn to defeat in the fourth quarter. Melo Trimble's three-pointer sent the game to overtime at 66-all, giving you an idea how tough the defenses were on the day.

Even though the team fighting back to force overtime usually has the momentum in additional five minutes, coach John Patrick did not allow it on Monday. His small-ball lineup without a center tortured Galatasaray to keep Ludwigsburg in front in OT.

Okben Ulubay's three-pointer with just over 30 seconds to play made it a one-point game, but everybody knew where the ball was going next for Ludwigsburg.

Jonah Radebaugh isolated against Goksenin Koksal, getting to his spot and knocking in the game-clinching two-pointer. Trimble had another three-pointer for the tie - it did not fall, Ludwigsburg made it +5 from the free throw line, a healthy lead in a potential tie with Galatasaray at the end of Gameday 6.

Game hero: Radebaugh finished with 17 points, 8 rebounds and 3 assists while not turning the ball over at all in 41 minutes of action. Not only was he instrumental in overtime, his personal 5-0 run kept the game on Ludwigsburg's side as Galatasaray made their big run in the second half.

Radebaugh had a helping hand in Yorman Polas Bartolo, 13 points and 9 rebounds off the bench for the forward who covered the inside in the small-ball minutes to close out the game.

Stats don't lie: The irony of Ludwigsburg playing small-ball, without a big man in the middle, can be found in the fact that they dominated inside the arc. The Giants were a +26 team in points in the paint, while forcing 20 Galatasaray turnovers, resulting in 16 possessions more for Ludwigsburg.

Bottom line: Ludwigsburg are now 3-1, top of the group, with another home game coming up in 48 hours, against Hapoel U-NET Holon.

At 1-3, Galatasaray Nef will be in France, facing JDA Dijon at the same time, but need more from DeVaughn Akoon-Purcell and Dee Bost who shot just 7-of-31 from the field. Melo Trimble did his part with 21 points.

They said:

"We fought to the end. I couldn't be out there with my team in the overtime (after fouling out), but it's not over. Wednesday is now do-or-die for us, we have to bounce back and stay together." - Dee Bost, Galatasaray Nef

"We knew it's going to be a hard game because of how physical they play. Their whole game is based on this, their physicality, and they pushed us pretty much whole game. 20 turnovers, 17 offensive rebounds... We were not ready to play in the first half, we were lucky to be behind just five points." - Galatasaray Nef head coach Ekrem Memnun

"We played today with a lot of heart. The key was our defense, we forced a lot of turnovers. In the end we played with some space, and we got the win." - Yorman Polas Bartolo, MHP Riesen Ludwigsburg

"Both teams gave a 100 percent intensity the whole game despite some guys being out sick and injured and other guys even playing injured. We found a way to win in a game where we didn't make many outside shots, and I'm really proud of the guys. At some points, including the end of the game, we had five guards on the court, it was just a great team win in front of a great atmosphere. Respect to the Turkish fans, and to our fans, it was a fair and loud and exciting environment." - MHP Riesen Ludwigsburg head coach John Patrick
