    Expert picks

Over the course of the season, we will have a series of experts to call on for their predictions. You can either roll with their picks when you aren't sure or, even better, take your opportunity to prove them wrong and outscore them on the Leaderboard.

BCL Columnist Diccon Lloyd-Smeath is the one sticking his neck out for you again this week. We have a fantastic slate of games to get us tipped off for the Round of 16. Here are his predictions to help you pick up points and climb the table.

    Safe Pick🔒

With my safe pick this week, I'm going with AEK over their Greek rivals. This game essentially forms the second half of a double header with AEK having just picked up a 79-71 road win over Karditsa Iaponiki on January 17.

Frank Bartley had a monster 30-point performance in that one, with support from Adonis Arms' 13 points and 5 assists.

The other meeting between the two this season also ended with an AEK win, as they secured a comfortable 77-62 victory in the SUNEL Arena last October. Bartley had 19 in that game, too. He seems to like playing against Karditsa.

AEK are the best defensive team in the BCL so far this season, holding teams to just 96.3 points per 100 possessions. They have also won 12 of their last 13 home games in the BCL, making the SUNEL Arena into a fortress.

Brandon Jefferson is on a serious hot streak right now in the BCL, having 15+ points in each of his five away games, averaging 20.4 points in that time.

He was also the MVP of the Play-Ins, so AEK will need to keep hold of him for this prediction to hold. I just feel like they will have enough depth to get it done in this one, even if Brandon Jefferson does Brandon Jefferson things.

    Wildcard 🃏

It takes a brave man to predict against a team from the Liga Endesa in the BCL, especially at home but that's exactly what I'm going to do with my wild card for this week.

Pallacanestro Trieste have just enjoyed an extra day off after their domestic game against Trapani Shark was called off and they will be feeling confident after getting the job done over NHSZ-Szolnoki Olajbanyasz in the Play-Ins.

That dramatic end to Game 3 was a classic BCL drama.

Dreamland Gran Canaria, on the other hand, have been struggling of late.

They will be buoyed by the arrival of Kassius Robertson, but their last two outings in the Liga Endesa have resulted in frustrating losses to Forca Lleida at home and Zaragoza on the road.

Granca have won all of their BCL games so far, and as such will be strong favourites, but Trieste have been very good on the road, winning their last 3 games on the spin.

If there is a wildcard win this week, I think it will be Trieste over Granca.
