Week 2 Tuesday/Wednesday games preview


MIES (Switzerland) - Week two of the Basketball Champions League is quickly approaching, with seven total games (not including the Game of the Week on Wednesday) on the schedule for October 11 and October 12.

Here's a look at the four games on Tuesday:

Game 1: Galatasaray Nef (1-0) v Legia Warszawa (0-1) - Group C

Where: Istanbul, Turkey

When: 19:00

- Galatasaray have won six of their last seven games in the BCL regular season, including each of the most recent four; they have scored more than 80 points in each of their six home games during the regular season in the competition.

- Dee Bost scored 23 points on Gameday 1 against Filou Oostende, his best tally in the BCL since joining Galatasaray; Dee Bost has scored more than 10 points in each of his last 11 games in the BCL regular season and has grabbed 5+ rebounds in eight of those games.

- Legia lost their first BCL game, 81-84 against Hapoel Holon, and will attempt to avoid becoming the third Polish team in a row to lose their first two games in the competition (Start Lublin in 2020-21 and Ostrow Wielkopolski in 2021-22).

- Legia made 17 3-pointers against Holon, the most of any team on Gameday 1 of this BCL season; 63% of their 81 points came from behind the arc, also the highest ratio among all teams.

- Legia were the only team with three players registering 5+ assists in Gameday 1 of this BCL season: Ray McCallum (5), Devyn Marble (5) and Lukasz Koszarek (6).

Game 2: Hapoel Holon (1-0) v Filou Oostende (0-1) - Group C

Where: Holon, Israel

When: 19:30

 

- Holon and Oostende will face each other for the third time in BCL history, with the Belgian side winning the two previous encounters; Holon scored 58 points in their previous home game against Oostende, the second lowest scoring performance at home for the Israeli side in the BCL (56 v Monaco).

- Holon won eight of their nine home games during the BCL 2021-22, including their last five in a row, their best winning streak on their home court in the competition; they have scored 90+ points in each of their last three home games but had a longer such run only once before, four games between January and October 2018.

- Oostende won their last two away games in the BCL regular season after losing the previous four; they have conceded 85+ points in each of their last five away games in the regular season after conceding 85+ points in only two of the previous 13.

- Holon's Chris Johnson has combined 15+ points and 10+ rebounds in each of his last two games in the BCL regular season, after recording only one double-double in his first 21 games in the regular season; Johnson has averaged 20 points and 9 rebounds in his last three home games in the BCL.

- Oostende's Pierre-Antoine Gillet has scored 10+ points in each of his last two BCL games but has never reached double-digit scoring in more games in a row in the competition; Gillet has scored multiple three-pointers in each of his last four BCL appearances.

Game 3: Limoges CSP (0-1) v S.L. Benfica (1-0) - Group F

Where: Limoges, France

When: 20:30 CET

- Limoges have only won two of their seven BCL games, but those two wins came at home; none of their seven games in the competition have ended with a margin greater than six points.

- Limoges' Nicolas Lang has scored 10+ points in 11 of his last 12 BCL games where he played at least 20 minutes, scoring multiple three-pointers in each of those 11 games; in fact, Lang has scored at least four three-pointers in four of his last five BCL games with 20+ minutes played.

- Benfica won their first BCL game on the road, 89-76 against VEF Riga, but since the beginning of 2020-21, only Tofas Bursa in 2021-22 managed to win their first two away games in their debut season.

- Benfica recorded 15 steals at Riga's home court, the most of any team in the opening round in the BCL 2022-23 season, while commiting only eight turnovers, a joint-low in Gameday 1, alongside Surne Bilbao.

- Benfica's Aaron Broussard has scored 15+ points in three of his 12 games in the BCL, with two of those being on the road; he scored 24 points in his only trip to France (v Le Mans in February 2019), his highest scoring game in the competition.

Game 4: BAXI Manresa (1-0) v VEF Riga (0-1) - Group F

Where: Manresa, Spain

When: 21:00 CET

 

- Manresa have won 11 of their 14 home games in the BCL, including each of the most recent four by margins of 15 points or more; Manresa have scored 85+ points in each of their last six home games.

- Manresa scored only 16 points in the paint against Limoges in gameday 1, the fewest of any team in the BCL's opening round this season; however, Riga conceded 44 points in the paint in their previous game, the second most of any team last week (Bakken Bears, 46).

- Manresa's Dani Perez has scored 10+ points in each of his last two BCL games, as often as in his first 27 BCL appearances; last week he became the first player to combine for 10+ points, 5+ rebounds and 5+ assists for Manresa in a BCL game (10 pts, 5 reb, 5 ast v Limoges).

- Riga have only won two of their 17 away games in the BCL and have lost the most recent eight; however, only one of their last 10 away games ended with a double-digit margin.

- Kristers Zoriks registered last week only the second double-double in points and assists for a Riga player in the BCL (14 pts, 10 ast v Benfica), after Lester Medford in January 2020 against Gaziantep (12 pts, 12 ast); Zoriks has made multiple three-pointers in eight of his 10 away games in the BCL.

 

Here's a look at the three games on Wednesday:

Game 1: Falco Vulcano Szombathely (0-1) v UCAM Murcia (1-0) - Group A

Where: Szombathely, Hungary

When: 18:00 CET

 

- Szombathely have won 10 of their 13 home games played during the regular season in the BCL, including each of the most recent four; each of their last 10 home games in the regular season ended with margins of 10 points or fewer.

- Szombathely's Boris Barac has scored 226 points in the BCL, the most among all players currently in the league that have always come off the bench in the BCL (26 games); he has combined 10+ points and 4+ rebounds in each of his last four BCL games.

- Murcia have won 14 of their last 15 games in the BCL regular season, including each of the most recent nine; they won 75-72 their Gameday 1 game against Tofas, despite trailing by eight points at halftime.

- Murcia grabbed 55 rebounds on Gameday 1, the most amongst all teams – this was also a joint-high for them in their 37 games in the BCL; however, they have never grabbed more than 45 rebounds in an away game in the competition.

- Murcia's Jordan Davis has always scored 10+ points while playing on the road in the BCL (4 games); in fact, he averages more points when playing away from home (16.3) than when playing on his home court (13.6).

Game 2: SIG Strasbourg (1-0) v Tofas Bursa (0-1) - Group A

Where: Strasbourg, France

When: 20:00 CET

-Tofas won their two previous games against Strasbourg in the BCL, both in the 2021-22 regular season; Strasbourg haven’t had a lead greater than one point in their two BCL games against Tofas.

- Tofas have lost their last four games in the BCL but have never lost more games in a row in the competition; five of their last six BCL games ended with a margin of three points or fewer.

- Tofas' Suleiman Braimoh has scored more than 10 points in each of his last three BCL games but never had a longer streak in his 47 appearances in the league; he has grabbed exactly 8 rebounds in each of his las three games, after grabbing 8+ rebounds in only three of his previous 30 games.

- Strasbourg have won four of their last six home games in the BCL regular season, after losing each of the previous six; however, they have lost their last three home games played against Turkish teams in the regular season, the most recent one being against Tofas in October 2021 (76-74).

- Strasbourg's DeAndre Lansdowne scored 20 points on Gameday 1 against Szombathely but has never scored 15+ points in consecutive games in the BCL; he has never scored more than 12 points in his four games against Turkish teams in the competition.

Game 3: UNAHOTELS Reggio Emilia (1-0) v AEK (0-1) - Group B

Where: Reggio Emilia, Italy

When: 20:30 CET

- Reggio Emilia could become the fourth Italian team to win their first two games in the BCL after Scandone Avellino in 2016-17, Virtus Bologna in 2018-19 and Universo Treviso Basket in 2021-22.

- Reggio Emilia scored 55.6 percent of their attempted field goals on Gameday 1, the highest scoring ratio of any team in the BCL this season; they have also made 52.9 percent of their attempted 3-pointers, the highest percentage from behind the arc.

- Reggio Emilia's Kassius Robertson scored 19 points on Gameday 1 but he has scored 15+ points in consecutive games in the league only once before, in December 2018; he has played twice against a Greek team, scoring in single digits in both his encounters with Promitheas.

- AEK have lost their last seven away games in the BCL, as many losses as in their previous 24 away games in the competition; they have lost two of their previous three trips to Italy in the BCL.

- AEK's Akil Mitchell has combined for 18+ points and exactly 9 rebounds in each of his last two games in the BCL; however, he was on the losing side in both those games – this year's opening game with AEK (19 pts, 9 reb v Pinar Karsiyaka) and last season's Gameday 3 with Karsiyaka (18 pts, 9 reb v Manresa).
