Kalinoski steals fire from Promitheas, sends Unicaja to another Final Four

MIES (Switzerland) - Unicaja became the first team to reach the Final Four in Belgrade, Serbia. Ibon Navarro's men swept Promitheas Patras in the Quarter-Finals,  thanks to a dominant second half in Game 2 on the road.

The Spanish team prevailed 90-83 in Patras, reaffirming their status as arguably the hottest team in Europe at the moment. This was Unicaja's 12th BCL win of the season when no other team has more than 10, and they are top of the standings in the Spanish Liga Endesa, too.

Turning point: Promitheas and Unicaja went back-and-forth in the first half, but whatever coach Navarro told his men in the locker room during the break turned out to be the winning recipe. They held Promitheas to just 11 third-quarter points, taking control of the game.

Unicaja then switched through gears through the final stanza. Once Tyler Kalinoski connected on back-to-back threes, it was a 17-point game with just five minutes to play, securing a calm finish to the day for the Malaga team.

Game hero: Nothing sweeter than a BCL season-high in a win that punches your team's ticker to the Final Four. Kalinoski counted to 23 points in just 20 minutes of work, hitting 8-of-15 shots from the field, including 5-of-10 from three-point range.

Honorable mention goes out to David Kravish who finished with 15 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists, because Unicaja were a +22 team with him on the floor.

Stats don't lie: Turning the ball over 14 times is not exactly a capital sin, but Unicaja created a 20-9 edge in points off turnovers out of those 14 Promitheas turnovers.

Bottom line: Promitheas put up a fight, and Hunter Hale had another crazy game with 31 points on 9-of-13 shooting, including 6-of-8 from beyond the arc. Jaime Echenique had 16 on the day, Anthony Cowan scored another 14, but that was about it for coach Ilias Papatheodorou.

Still, a Quarter-Finals appearance is the first one for them in their BCL resumè.

Unicaja are the first team to reach this season's Final Four. They won't settle for anything less than winning the BCL trophy, only two steps remain on their run towards eternity.
