German clubs secure first two tickets to the Quarter-Finals

MIES (Switzerland) - MHP RIESEN Ludwigsburg and Telekom Baskets Bonn are the first two passengers on board the Elite 8 flight. UCAM Murcia, who won on Tuesday, will have to wait for the Wednesday results to see if they will be joining them with a game to spare in the Round of 16.

Amazingly, Ludwigsburg advanced while missing a tip-in at the buzzer to send the game to overtime in Istanbul.

Galatasaray EKMAS prevailed 93-91 , but it was a bitter-sweet win for the giants from Turkiye because they handed the tiebreaker to the Giants from Germany.

Jayvon Graves, known as the home court specialist who came into the game averaging 22 points per game in Ludwigsburg, compared with 11  points per game on the road, ended up with his best game of the season. The guard collected a BCL season-high 26 points, with 6 rebounds and 5 assists also to his name.

Desure Buie, Jaren Lewis and Silas Melson combined for 34 points to help Ludwigsburg erase what was a 16-point deficit at one point and steer the German ship back to safe waters.

Galatasaray had seven players in double figures, extended their winning streak to four games in all competitions, but they cannot finish better than third in Group J.

Ludwigsburg won the first matchup by 20 points, and with a sweep over JDA Bourgogne Dijon already in their hands, coach Josh King and his crew have a Quarter-Finals ticket booked and can now focus on the next goal - chasing the defending champs for home court advantage.

German battle for home court

Telekom Baskets Bonn climbed to 4-1 in that same group with a comfortable 89-74 win over Dijon in Germany. They opened up a 17-2 lead and never looked back, spending all but 30 seconds of the game ahead of the French side on the scoreboard.

It was the tenth Round of 16 win in last 11 games for the defending champs, who relied on their lefty point guard, just like last season.

Harald Frey channeled his inner TJ Shorts II with 10 points and 10 assists, Sam Griesel scored a team-high 17 points to lead five men in double digits for coach Roel Moors.

Bonn are now a win ahead of Ludwigsburg in Group J. The all-German battle for first spot will take place in Ludwigsburg next week. Bonn won the first game by 5 points, meaning Ludwigsburg need a 5-point win to finish top of the group and earn homecourt advantage in the Quarter-Finals.

UCAM Murcia could secure a Quarter-Finals berth by Wednesday night, after prevailing 100-89  over AEK BETSSON BC in Spain on Tuesday.

If Promitheas Patras defeat Hapoel Holon on Wednesday, the Spaniards will secure a top-two finish in the group and move into the Quarter-Finals for the second straight season, and third in their four BCL campaigns.

Jonah Radebaugh found a home in Murcia and is echoing  his stellar campaign with Ludwigsburg, back in 2021-22.

The versatile guard's  BCL season-high going into Wednesday's game was 13 points, when he was still playing for Galatasaray EKMAS. He got up to 12 points in less than 10 minutes in the first half alone.

Radebaugh counted to 31 on the day, shooting 12-of-15 from the field in just 22 minutes of action, to set his new BCL career-high by some distance. His previous career-high was 24 points, which he scored on his BCL debut for Ludwigsburg in a game against Sassari on October 5, 2021.

Murcia own the tiebreaker over Promitheas, meaning they will clinch homecourt advantage if they defeat Hapoel Holon on the final Round of 16 gameday.
