15 things to look out for in the 2024 Final

BELGRADE (Serbia) - This is the game we've been waiting for all season long! As Lenovo Tenerife and Unicaja prepare to face off in the Season 8 title game, we take a look at 15 things you should know before the showdown clash tips off in Belgrade.

Lenovo Tenerife vs. Unicaja

Final - April 28, 20:00 CET - Belgrade Arena

An MVP award and the chance to cross the 1,000-point and 600-assist thresholds - but will Huertas also pick up the trophy this weekend?

● This is the second time in BCL history that two teams from the same country will meet in a BCL Final. Tenerife were also involved in the first one, in 2022, when they ended up winning 98-87 against BAXI Manresa.

● Tenerife and Unicaja last met in the BCL in last year's Third-Place Game in Malaga, with the former defeating the then hosts 84-79.

● This will be the sixth of the eight BCL finals to feature at least one team from Spain. Overall, 50 percent of the finalists (8 of 16) have been Spanish teams if we include also this Final.

● If Tenerife win on Sunday, they will become the first club with three BCL titles (after 2017 and 2022). They are currently tied with San Pablo Burgos at two each. They have of course already secured their fifth podium finish (two titles, one second-place finish and one third-place finish), when no other club has more than two.

● Tenerife have an 8-2 record in their last 10 games against fellow Spanish teams in the BCL.

● Unicaja will play their first BCL final, becoming the fourth club from Spain to reach the title game (after Tenerife, Burgos and Manresa) and the 11th club overall.

● Unicaja are the only unbeaten team in the BCL since the start of the calendar year 2024, having won all of their nine games since January. They trailed by more than 10 points in three of those nine wins, including Friday's Semi-Final when they trailed UCAM Murcia by 11 points at some point.

● Tenerife take better care of the ball than any other team in this season's BCL, committing only 11.1 turnovers per game on average.

● Interestingly though, Unicaja are the best in the league when it comes to opponents' points off turnovers, as they give up only 11.1 per game on average. That's of course in large part thanks to the fact that opposing teams only come up with 5.1 steals on average when they face Unicaja.

● Tenerife have the best offensive rating in this season's BCL, 121 points per 100 possessions, but they will face the team with the best defensive ratio, as Unicaja only allow 99.5 points per 100 possessions.

● Unicaja (9.0) and Lenovo Tenerife (9.9) are two of the only five teams this season that give up fewer than 10 offensive rebounds per game. In fact, Unicaja are leading the league in defensive rebounding ratio, pulling down 74.7 percent of rebounds on their own glass.

● Tenerife's Tim Abromaitis, who became on Friday the first player to reach 100 games in the BCL, is poised to step out in his third BCL final, joining Dejan Kravic as the two players with the most appearances. The same would apply to fellow Tenerife forward Aaron Doornekamp, but he is currently sidelined due to injury and is unlikely to recover in time to play in the Final.

● The recently named 2023-24 season MVP Marcelinho Huertas is only 3 points shy of becoming the 4th player to reach 1,000 career points in the BCL and 7 assists away from becoming the first ever player to reach 600 career assists.

● Yankuba Sima is the only player on this Unicaja roster to have played a BCL Final, and it was precisely against Tenerife. Sima played for Manresa in 2022 and had 4 points, 3 rebounds, and 2 assists in that title game.

● Kendrick Perry is the only Unicaja player to have scored in double digits in all of their previous three games in a BCL Final Four (the two last year and Friday's Semi-Final). He was the only Unicaja player to score in double digits in the Third-Place Game against Tenerife last year, with 22, and that was in fact his first ever +20-point game in the BCL.
