Banvit trail early but hit back for big win over MHP Riesen

BANDIRMA (Basketball Champions League) - Banvit spent their first two seasons in the Basketball Champions League playing in one memorable game after another, making the Final in Year One and the Quarter-Finals in Year Two.

Already their fans have huge cause for excitement because with a roster full of new players and a new coach in Ahmet Gurgen, the Bandirma club fought back from a 24-point deficit early in the second quarter and claimed a convincing, 89-76 triumph in Group A.

Jordan Morgan finished with a game-high 27 points and also had 8 rebounds for Banvit, who got big contributions from a whole cast of characters, including point guard Alex Perez. Struggling early, Perez put together a strong second half and finished with 14 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists and 3 steals.

MHP Riesen thrived in the fast-paced, transition game the first two seasons but tonight, Banvit excelled in that regard, finishing with 23 fast break points to just 16 for the German side.

Despite trailing 30-8 after a nightmarish first quarter, Banvit owned the rest of contest. They were behind by just a single point at half-time and outscored John Patrick's team 51-37 in the last two quarters.
