VILNIUS (Lithuania) - It's becoming a classic.
For the second straight season Rytas Vilnius and Galatasaray MCT Technic are drawn in the same Round of 16 group, and their battle in front of a sell-out crowd in Lithuania was worth every bit of your attention.
Rytas were up by 12 with less than seven minutes to play, only for Galatasaray to pull off a wild comeback, force overtime and storm off to a road win (89-85).
Galatasaray lost their first game of the Round of 16 and were in danger of going 0-2. Instead, they are now tied with Rytas at 1-1, with a reverse fixture in Istanbul coming up in March.
Errick McCollum had 24 points off the bench just five days after celebrating his 38th birthday. John Meeks scored a season-high 19 points, also off the bench, James Palmer Jr finished with 14, while Fabian White picked up a 13-point, 14-rebound double-double for coach Gianmarco Pozzecco.
"They fought behind the crowd momentum. Once we settled, relaxed and started doing the things we do, we got back into the game and put some pressure on them. Anytime you're on the road and you take the lead, it puts the home team in an uncomfortable situation. I think once we did that we had control of the situation when it went into overtime."
Jerrick Harding had 28 for Rytas, followed by Speedy Smith with 18, Arturas Gudaitis with 15, and Kay Bruhnke with 10.
Both teams are ahead of Hapoel Netanel Holon (0-2), but also trailing Le Mans Sarthe Basket (2-0) in Group I.
