    Expert picks

Over the course of the season we will have a series of experts to call on for their predictions. You can either roll with their picks when you aren't sure or even better, take your opportunity to prove them wrong and outscore them on the Leaderboard.

BCL Columnist Diccon Lloyd-Smeath is back behind the wheel with his predictions for Gameday 5.

Last week, he had 5 correct predictions, including 1 perfect score, but more importantly, both the Safe Pick and Wildcard predictions would have steered you to at least 6 points. Let's see if he can repeat the feat this week.

    Safe Pick🔒

AEK BC are your safe pick. There you go, it's as simple as that right now.

Sure, they might have just lost a second game on the bounce in the Greek League, but it would take a different level of bravery to stump against them in the BCL this week. Even if you think they might be in a mini slump, they still have the #1 player in the MVP Race.

Then there is the small matter of AEK's record against their next opponents, VEF Riga. AEK and VEF Riga have faced off five times in the BCL, with The Queen holding a dominant 4-1 record, including the last four wins on the spin.

AEK have outscored the Latvians by an average margin of about eight points in those games, and the road leg this season saw AEK claim a dominant 16-point win.

It's not an impossible task for VEF Riga to win in the SUNEL Arena, and this is the BCL, so anything could happen, but if you are looking for a safe pick this week, go with The Queen to get back to winning ways.

    Wildcard 🃏

For the Wildcard this week, I am going with ALBA BERLIN to do the double over ERA Nymburk in Czechia.

On paper, the Germans might even be the favorites, and they did just beat Nymburk by 16 points at home on October 28. So, you might be wondering how this constitutes a wildcard pick, but that would be because you didn't know that Nymburk have a 68 percent win rate all-time in the BCL Regular Season and won all three at home in Group D of Season IX.

Winning against Nymburk in Czechia has never been an easy task in the BCL, but ALBA are on a roll.

They are up to six straight wins in all competitions now after wins over Mitteldeuscher and Telekom Baskets Bonn since that home win over Nymburk in late October.

Also, whisper it quietly, but Jack Kayil might just be arriving in time for the BCL's Best Young Player Award.
