Final Tuesday regular season games preview

MIES (Switzerland) - Well, that went fast. Season Seven of the Basketball Champions League has reached the finish line of the regular season and the final week begins with a packed schedule of eight games on Tuesday December 20.

The 16 teams from Groups E, F, C and G will all be in action, and here's a look at those eight games on Tuesday:

Game 1: Darussafaka (2-3) v Hapoel Bank Yahav Jerusalem (4-1) - Group E

Where: Istanbul, Turkey

When: 18:00 CET

Darussafaka have already locked up third place in the group.

Jerusalem, meanwhile, will finish:
first, with a win;
first, with a loss, if Bakken Bears defeat MHP RIESEN
second, with a loss, if MHP RIESEN defeat Bakken Bears.

  • Darussafaka have lost their 10 BCL games where they failed to score 75+ points, including the last game against Jerusalem (69-67), and have won their last six games where they scored 75+ points; Darussafaka lost their last game (68-66 v Bakken Bears) but are yet to lose consecutive games in the BCL in 2022.
  • Darussafaka's Dogus Ozdemiroglu has scored 300 points in the BCL, the third Turkish player to have reached that tally; he made his first double-double in his last game, against Bakken Bears (16 points, 11 rebounds).
  • Jerusalem have won seven of their last eight games in the BCL regular season, with only one of those eight games ending with a double-digit margin; they were trailing at halftime in four of the seven wins in that run.
  • Jerusalem have scored 57.8 percent of their two-pointers in the BCL this season, the best percentage among all teams; Darussafaka have scored 60.6 percent of their points from two-pointers, the highest percentage of all teams in the BCL this season.
  • Jerusalem's Zach Hankins has scored 10+ points in each of his last six BCL games, his best streak in the competition; he failed to record a block in his last game, against MHP RIESEN, after making at least one in each of his previous 20 appearances in the competition.

Game 2: Bakken Bears (1-4) v MHP RIESEN (3-2) - Group E

Where: Aarhus, Denmark

When: 18:00 CET

Bakken have already been eliminated from the competition.

RIESEN will finish:
first, with a win, if Darussafaka defeat Jerusalem,
second, with a win, if Jerusalem defeat Darussafaka,
second, with a loss.

  • Bakken have won three of their last four home games in the BCL after winning only one of the previous eight; they won the only previous time they hosted a German team in the competition, 71-65 against Fraport Skyliners in November 2016.
  • In his last game, Elijah Childs became the first Bakken player to tally a double-double in a BCL game this season (10 points, 10 rebounds v Darussafaka) - each of the last three double-doubles made by Bakken players in the competition came from bench players; however, Childs is averaging only 7.5 points per game when playing at home whereas he has averaged 15.3 points per game when playing away from home.
  • One of RIESEN's two BCL wins by a 40+ margin came against Bakken in the last game (99-58); the German side have lost their last two BCL games but have not lost more in a row since a
    stretch of three defeats in January-February 2019.
  • RIESEN have conceded only 5.2 three-pointers per game in the BCL this season, fewer than any other team; they are one of the two teams, alongside Tofas Bursa, to have never conceded 10+ three-pointers in a BCL game this season.
  • RIESEN's Prentiss Hubb was the best point scorer in the last game against Bakken (16 points), adding 5 rebounds and 5 assists in that game; Hubb is one of the four players to have scored 4+ three-pointers in at least three BCL games this season.

Game 3: VEF Riga (1-4) v BAXI Manresa (3-2) - Group F

Where: Riga, Latvia

When: 18:30 CET

Riga have already been eliminated from the competition.

Manresa will finish:
first, with a win, if Limoges CSP defeat S.L. Benfica,
second, with a win, if S.L. Benfica defeat Limoges CSP,
third, with a loss, if Limoges CSP defeat S.L. Benfica.

  • Riga have won just three of their last 19 games in the BCL, but all those victories happened at home; they are yet to win against a Spanish team in league history (0-7), while never scoring more than 75 points in such a game – Manresa won the last game with the final score of 88-59.
  • Riga have scored only 66 points per game, the lowest scoring mark in the BCL this season; 49.1 percent of their total points have come from three-point shots, the highest percentage of any team in the league this season.
  • Riga's Kristers Zoriks has scored 16+ points in each of his last three games in the BCL, as many times as in his previous 20 league appearances; Zoriks has scored 3+ shots from behind the arc in four of his five league games this season, with the only exception being the last game against Manresa (0-of-3).
  • Manresa have won seven of their last nine away games in the BCL, with those two defeats happening in Turkey; they have scored more than 90 points in three of their last five league games on the road.
  • Jerrick Harding has scored 16 or more points in each of his five games with Manresa in the BCL; he had his highest scoring BCL game in his most recent appearance in the competition, tallying 30 points against Limoges CSP – however, he has never scored 25+ points in consecutive league games.

Game 4: S.L. Benfica (4-1) v Limoges CSP (2-3) - Group F

Where: Lisbon, Portugal

When: 18:30 CET

Benfica will finish:
first, with a win,
first, with a loss, if Riga defeat Manresa,
second, with a loss, if Manresa defeat Riga.

Limoges will finish:
second, with a win, if Riga defeat Manresa,
third, with a win, if Manresa defeat Riga,
third, with a loss.

  • Benfica have won four of their five games in the BCL this season, but their sole defeat happened at home; the last game against Limoges was Benfica's only game that ended with a single digit differential (68-67).
  • Aaron Broussard scored 15+ points in four of his five games with Benfica in the BCL, including against Limoges in the last game (17 points), after scoring that many points in only two of his previous 11 appearances in the competition.
  • Limoges won their last two games in the BCL, as many wins as in their previous nine league games; Limoges' sole win on the road happened in the only game in which they scored more than 75 points.
  • Limoges are the only team conceding fewer than 20 points in the paint per game in the BCL this season (18.8) and have forced their opponents to score only 43.4 percent of their two-pointers, less than against any other team.
  • Desi Rodriguez scored 15 or more points in each of his last two BCL games, after never tallying more than 12 points in his three previous appearances with Limoges CSP; Rodriguez grabbed eight rebounds against Benfica in the last game, a joint-high for him in a BCL game.

Game 5: Filou Oostende (2-3) v Hapoel Atsmon Holon (4-1) - Group C

Where: Oostende, Belgium

When: 20:00 CET

 

Oostende have already clinched third place in the group.

Holon will finish:
first, with a win;
first, with a defeat if Legia Warszawa defeat Galatasaray Nef;
second, with a defeat if Galatasaray Nef defeat Legia Warszawa.

  • Oostende won two of their three games against Holon in the BCL, including their previous matchup in Belgium (101-86); however, Oostende have lost their most recent three home games in the BCL and weren't able to score 80 or more in any of those encounters.
  • Oostende are scoring 15.8 points from fast break situations per game in the BCL this season, more than any other team; Holon on the other hand are conceding 15.6 points per game from fast breaks, only PAOK (15.8) have conceded more from those situations.
  • Tre'shawn Thurman scored 20 or more points in three of his last four games with Oostende in the BCL, including in the last game against Holon (22 points); Thurman grabbed 7+ rebounds in each of his two home games this season, despite coming off the bench in both occasions.
  • Holon have won four of their five games in the BCL this season, but their lone defeat happened while playing on the road (88-75 at Galatasaray); they lost the only game in which they scored
    fewer than 80 points this season.
  • Holon's Joe Ragland has made 279 assists in the BCL and needs two more to reach the all-time Top 5 players in this category (Rodrigo San Miguel, 280); Ragland has dished out 7.2 assists per game, the second most amongst all players with 15+ games in the competition (Marcelinho Huertas, 7.4).

Game 6: Legia Warszawa (1-4) v Galatasaray Nef (3-2) - Group C

Where: Warsaw, Poland

When: 20:00 CET

 

Legia have been eliminated from the competition.

Galatasaray will finish:
first, with a win, if Holon lose to Oostende
second, if Holon defeat Oostende.

  • Legia are still looking for their first home win in the BCL, after losing their two previous games in Poland; only two of Legia's five previous games have ended with double digit margins, including the last game against Galatasaray (86-71).
  • Legia's Ray McCallum has scored 15+ points in each of his five games in the BCL; he has also dished out 5+ assists in three of his appearances, including in the last game against Galatasaray (5).
  • Galatasaray have won the three games in which they conceded fewer than 80 points and lost the two games in which they conceded more than 80 points in the BCL this season.
  • Galatasaray have 2.3 assists per turnover, while no other team have 2+ assists per turnover in the BCL in 2022-23; they have never made more than 10 turnovers in a BCL game this season.
  • Dylan Ennis scored more than 20 points in his last two BCL games with Galatasaray, after not scoring that many in consecutive games in his previous 32 appearances; however, he has scored an average of 9.5 points per game when playing on the road this season.

Game 7: JDA Bourgogne Dijon (3-2) v PAOK mateco (1-4) - Group G

Where: Dijon, France

When: 20:30 CET

 

Dijon have clinched second place in the group.

PAOK will finish:
third, with a win,
third, with a loss, if Unicaja defeat Dinamo BDS Sassari,
fourth, with a loss, if Dinamo BDS Sassari defeat Unicaja.

  • Dijon have won each of their previous three BCL encounters with PAOK, including the last game this season (70-66); Dijon lost their last home game in the competition (91-70 v Unicaja) but lost consecutive home games only once before, when they suffered four home defeats in a row between October and December 2018.
  • David Holston has scored a total of 701 points, the sixth player in BCL history to make 700+ points, and he is now six points shy of overtaking Kevin Punter (706) as the fifth player on the all-time scoring list; he scored 21 points in his last game, against Dinamo BDS Sassari, but he has scored more than 20 points in two games of a single season only once before, it was in 2018-19 against Brose Bamberg (29) and Lietkabelis (31).
  • PAOK have lost their last four away games in the BCL; they lost their previous five BCL trips to France, by an average of 14 points.
  • PAOK are the team with the fewest points scored in the first half of their games in the BCL this season (32.2), however, they're the team averaging the most points in the second half of their games (43.8).
  • PAOK's Jalen Riley has scored more than 20 points in three of his 12 BCL games, the most recent two being against Dijon (23 with Riga, January 2022; 25 with PAOK, Gameday 1 this season); however, he scored his fewest points in a BCL game while playing away in Dijon in January this year (2 points).

Game 8: Unicaja (5-0) v Dinamo BDS Sassari (1-4) - Group G

Where: Malaga, Spain

When: 20:30 CET

Unicaja have already locked up first in the group and advanced to the Round of 16.

Sassari will finish:
third, with a win, if Dijon defeat PAOK,
fourth, with a loss.

  • Unicaja have won each of their five BCL games this season, including the last game against Sassari (87-76), after winning only three of their previous 10 games in the competition; they have won their five home games in the BCL regular season, each by margins of at least 14 points.
  • Unicaja (6.6) and Sassari (7.8) have allowed their opponents the fewest offensive rebounds per game in the BCL this season; they are two of the three teams to have grabbed the highest share of rebounds available on their defensive basket (Unicaja, 79.1 percent, Sassari 75.8 percent - also Oostende 75.8 percent).
  • Unicaja's Kendrick Perry has scored 10+ points in each of his last three BCL games but has never done it in more games in a row in the competition; he scored only 3 points in the last game against Sassari, his lowest tally in a BCL game with more than 10 minutes on the court.
  • Sassari have lost their last eight away games in the BCL, by an average margin of 16 points; they have also lost their last four trips to Spain in the competition, each by margins of 15+ points.
  • Sassari's Jamal Jones has scored 10+ points in each of his last three BCL games, as often as in his previous 14 appearances in the competition; he scored 19 points in his last game, against Dijon, his best tally in the BCL.
