Unstoppable Tenerife roll past Juventus on the road

UTENA (Basketball Champions League) – Iberostar Tenerife registered another broad win on Tuesday night, 93-71 over previously perfect Juventus Utenas on the road, to improve to 3-0 and stay joint-top of the Group D standings, together with Sidigas Avellino.

"We are very happy because Juventus is a very good team with two important wins over Strasbourg and Oostende," Tenerife head coach Txus Vidoretta commented afterwards. "For us to have three wins in three game is perfect at this stage of the competition."

Tenerife led from start to finish and drilled 10 of their 14 three-point attempts in the first half to build a comfy 53-41 cushion at halftime, but they dealt the fatal blow after the interval. The Spanish side held their hosts to just seven points in the third period and scored 24 of their own for the gap to ballon to 29 points going into the final stanza.

"We started the game shooting the ball very well, we hit 10 three-pointers in the first half and that allowed us to take a nice advantage," said Vidoretta. "During the third quarter we did a great job on defence and we allowed them to score only seven points. Once we took more than 20 points difference, 29 at the end of that quarter, we killed off the game."

Carl English came up with yet another great contribution off the bench for the winners, as he finished with a game-high 18 points and added two rebounds and two assists. Javier Beiran meanwhile 13 points on 5-of-8 shooting from the floor, six boards and five assists in an all-round display.
