Rosa Radom topple Zielona Gora to lift Polish Supercup

Zielona Gora (Basketball Champions League) – In an exciting late Sunday clash between the two clubs that will represent Poland in the Basketball Champions League, Cup holders Rosa Radom stunned reigning PLK league champions Stelmet Zielona Gora 81-77 to claim the Polish Supercup title. The trophy represents Rosa Radom's second item of silverware in club history following the Cup success of last spring.

Tyrone Brazelton, who earned MVP honours, was in inspirational form and paved the way to Radom’s triumph with 30 points on 8-for-12 shooting from the floor, seven rebounds and four assists. The American guard got plenty of help from Gary Bell who collected 18 points and five boards as well as Michal Sokołowski who finished with 13 points, six rebounds and four assists.

Those three players stayed on the court for at least 31 minutes each as the winners used a short rotation but still managed to maintain their intensity at high levels throughout the night and controlled the glass, out-rebounding the hosts 44 to 33.

For Zielona Gora, who suffered their first home defeat to a fellow Polish team in almost two years, James Florence had 26 points on a superb 6-for-10 from three-point range while Julian Vaughn and Przemyslaw Zamojski added 12 points apiece in losing efforts.

Radom used a 12-2 burst midway through the second quarter to jump ahead 36-30 on triple by Bell with 2:58 remaining to the half-time interval. They stretched the lead to as many as nine points in the third stanza but Stelmet threw everything at the visitors and tied the scores at 73-all on a Florence triple 1:14 from the final buzzer.

Brazelton however drew fouls on back-to-back possessions and made the most of his trips to the charity stripe and Rosa got a stop on the defensive end to gain a four-point cushion that they managed to hold on to in the dying seconds.

Rosa Radom were drawn in Group C of the Basketball Champions League Regular Season, while Zielona Gora will do battle in Group E, starting on Tuesday 18 October.
