Week 4 Tuesday fixtures preview

MIES (Switzerland) - Reigning champions Hereda San Pablo Burgos are finally commencing their 2020-21 BCL campaign, albeit at Oostende, which has proven very unwelcoming for Spanish teams in the past.

The Tuesday slate comprises six games in total, let's have a closer look at each of those clashes:

Tofas Bursa (1-0) vs. ERA Nymburk (0-1) -- Group B, 18:00 CET

  • Tofas will have to make do without DJ White, who will be sidelined for at least two weeks through injury.

  • Tofas are coming off a 91-79 win at Galatasaray on Sunday, in Turkish BSL league action. Sean Kilpatrick led the way with 24 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists. Nymburk were not in domestic league action at the weekend, so their last outing is the 85-61 loss at JDA Dijon in the BCL opener.

  • This is Tofas' home debut in the BCL and they have tradition on their side, since Muratbey Usak are the only Turkish team to have lost their home debut in the competition (they fell 67-65 to Neptunas Klaipeda in October 2016). Six other Turkish teams that have played in the BCL all won their home debut while Galatasaray, which just like Tofas is playing in the competition for the first time this year, have not yet played at home.

  • Nymburk have won their last four BCL games against teams from Turkey, after losing three of their first four games against teams from that country. The Czech team had a league-best 12-2 Regular Season record in 2019-20 and finished that stage on a 7-game win streak.

  • Tofas attempted 17 shots from behind the arc in their first BCL game against Keravnos, the fewest by any team in a single game so far this season. Tofas converted five of those three-pointers and are just above Pinar Karsiyaka, who scored four triples in their debut, as the team with fewest made triples so far this season.

  • DeVaughn Akoon-Purcell of Tofas, had 14 games in a row scoring in double digits the first time he played in the BCL, back in 2016-17 with Bakken Bears, and he extended that streak to 15 games in the Tofar season opener against Keravnos. Akoon-Purcell is chasing D.J. Kennedy of Pinar Karsiyaka, who has logged 17 straight BCL games with 10 or more points. Neither one of them has ever scored in single digits in a BCL game.

  • Nymburk's Vojtech Hruban scored 16 or more points in each of his last six games in the BCL. Kevin Punter, Ricky Ledo and Tyler Stone are the only players with a longer stretch of consecutive games scoring 16 or more points.

SIG Strasbourg (1-0) vs. Rytas Vilnius (0-1) -- Group E, 18:00 CET

  • Rytas have signed Ryan Boatright to replace Demetrious Jackson, who departed last week, but it's very doubtful the 27-year-old point guard will join his new team in time to feature in Tuesday's clash.

  • On Saturday, Rytas lost 82-79 to Pieno Zvaigzdes in Lithuanian LKL league action, despite an 18-point display by Andrew Goudelock. Strasbourg have not seen action since October 28th, when they won at VEF Riga in their BCL season opener.

  • Strasbourg have a 2-6 record against teams from Lithuania in the BCL and have lost their four most recent games against teams from that country. However, both of Strasbourg's victories were at home.

  • Strasbourg, who won their BCL season opener against VEF Riga, are looking to start off a BCL campaign on a 2-0 record for the second time in their five seasons in the league (only one so far was in 2018-19).

  • Meanwhile Rytas, who lost their debut game in the BCL to Peristeri, will try to avoid becoming the second Lithuanian team to lose both of their first two games in the competition, after Lietkabelis in 2018-19.

  • Rytas gave up 18 three-pointers and 106 points in the loss to Peristeri, the most by any team in a game so far this season. Torun are the last team to concede 100 or more points in consecutive games in the BCL, back in December 2019.

  • DeAndre Lansdowne of Strasbourg scored 26 points in his BCL debut against VEF Riga, a joint-high for a Strasbourg player in the competition (Zack Wright had 26 against AEK in November 2017). Gabe York is so far the only Strasbourg player to have scored 20 or more points in consecutive games.

Peristeri (1-0) vs. VEF Riga (0-1) -- Group E, 18:30 CET

  • Terran Petteway of Peristeri is nursing a sprained ankle and is doubtful for Tuesday's game.

  • Peristeri fell 66-62 to AEK at home in a Greek battle between BCL teams on Saturday, despite leading for much of the night. VEF Riga are coming off a 95-81 win at Liepaja in the Latvian-Estonian league, on November 4th, behind a 20-point showing from Kyle Allman.

  • The two teams crossed paths also in the 2019-20 Regular Season, with the Greek side winning both previous encounters.

  • Peristeri, who scored a BCL club-record 106 points in their season opener against Rytas, have never had two consecutive games in the competition scoring 85 or more points.

  • VEF are looking for their first ever road win in the BCL, after losing all seven games they played away from Latvia in 2019-20. The Riga side gave up 88.7 points per game on average, when playing on the road.

  • Peristeri's Steven Gray, who had a BCL career-high 39 points and added seven assists in the season opener, is seeking to post a second consecutive game of 20 or more points and 5 or more assists for the first time in his career in the competition.

  • Likewise, Aigars Skele who had 15 points and 6 assists in his first BCL game with VEF Riga, is seeking to post a second consecutive game of 15 or more points and 5 or more assists for the first time in his career in the competition.

Hapoel Holon (0-1) vs. Cholet (0-1) -- Group C, 20:00 CET

  • Cholet are still without Vafessa Fofana, who is recovering from Covid-19 after missing also the season opener against Tsmoki Minsk.

  • Holon are coming off an 100-91 defeat at Maccabi Rishon on Saturday, despite Tyrus McGee registering a 24-point, 3-assist effort. Cholet meanwhile have not seen domestic league action since mid-October.

  • Holon have a 3-7 record in their 10 most recent home games in the BCL. The Israeli team have lost six home games in which they were leading at halftime, the most for any team in the BCL since the start of the 2017-18 season.

  • French teams have won only two of their last eight games against teams from Israel in the BCL, the lowest winning percentage (25 percent) against teams from any country since the start of 2018-19.

  • Holon, who made 30 free-throws in their BCL season debut against AEK, have had three Regular Season games with 30 or more made free-throws, more than any other team in BCL history.

  • Guy Pnini of Holon has scored in double-digits in his last two BCL games. Holon lost the last five games in which Pnini came off the bench and have won three of the last five in which he was in the starting lineup.

  • Cholet's Michael Stockton had seven assists in his first game with the French team in the BCL (he played for Avtodor Saratov in 2016-17) and he is now averaging 5.7 assists per game when playing 12 or more minutes.

RETAbet Bilbao (0-1) vs. Brose Bamberg (1-0) -- Group F, 20:00 CET

  • Bilbao fell 82-68 to Baskonia in the Basque derby of the Spanish Liga Endesa on Saturday, with Jaylon Brown getting a game-high 19 points in defeat. A day later, Bamberg were in action in the premiere of the German BBL and lost 78-75 at Hamburg Towers, despite 20 points from Dominic Lockhart.

  • Bilbao, who lost their maiden BCL game to Pinar Karsiyaka, will try to avoid becoming the first Spanish team to lose their first two games in the competition.

  • Bilbao will be the third different Spanish team to face Brose Bamberg in the BCL, with the German side winning two of their previous four games against teams from that country.

  • Bamberg scored 35 points off turnovers in their first game of the current BCL season, a 100-63 triumph at Fortitudo, after never scoring more than 22 points off turnovers in any of their previous 34 games in the league.

  • Bilbao's Ondrej Balvín is one of two players so far this season to post a double-double off the bench. The Czech center had 14 points and 10 rebounds in his debut against Pinar Karsiyaka.

  • Bamberg's Chase Fieler became in the season opener against Fortitudo the first player in BCL history to collect at least 16 points, 6 rebounds, 6 assists, 2 steals and 2 blocks off the bench. Fieler hasn't so far score 15 or more points in consecutive games in the same BCL season.

Filou Oostende (0-1) vs. Hereda San Pablo Burgos (0-0) -- Group H, 20:00 CET

  • On Saturday, Oostende defeated Spirou Basket Charleroi 94-79 as Mario Nakic led the way with 25 points and 9 rebounds. Burgos are coming off a club-record three-point shooting display in the Liga Endesa on Sunday, as they went 18 for 30 from downtown and clinched a 99-81 win at Valencia.

  • Oostende will face their third different Spanish opponent in the BCL, having won all three games at home against teams from that country - twice against Iberostar Tenerife and once against BAXI Manresa.

  • Burgos won only two of the seven road games they played in the 2019-20 Regular Season, their first in the BCL. One of those two victories however was in Belgium, a 65-60 success against Telenet Giants Antwerp in December 2019.

  • Oostende, who had 22 assists in their season opener against Darüssafaka Tekfen, will look to dish 20 or more assists in consecutive BCL games for the first time in four years.

  • Oostende's Dusan Djordjevic, who had 9 assists against Darüssafaka, is second in the race for all-time assists leader in the BCL, with 276 assists currently. Hapoel Jerusalem's Tamir Blatt is leading with 278 assists.

  • Vitor Benite of Burgos scored 15 or more points in five of his last seven games in the BCL, when he had five such scoring displays in his previous 17 games in the competition. Burgos have won seven of the eight games in which Benite scored 15 or more points.
