Play-Off Quarter-Final 2nd leg report: Iberostar Tenerife see off pesky ASVEL to reach Final Four

SAN CRISTOBAL DE LA LAGUNA (Basketball Champions League) - Iberostar Tenerife pulled away in the fourth quarter to beat a resilient ASVEL on Wednesday night and claim a spot in the Basketball Champions League Final Four.

After last week's opening leg which finished in a 62-62 tie, ASVEL fell behind by 13 points but dug in and battled their way back to within a single point early in the fourth quarter before falling, 61-51.

The hosts had just three 3-pointers fall in the first three quarters but Marius Grigonis buried two and Tariq Kirksay another in the last frame to help Iberostar Tenerife keep their noses in front.

"In the end, the 3-point shots that Tenerife hit combined with a couple of layups we had that were taken off the circle that were important," ASVEL coach JD Jackson said. "It was very close. We have regrets but we really fought hard."

For Iberostar Tenerife, it was a struggle and much of that was owed to the excellent defensive strategy Jackson had his players employ. Iberostar Tenerife were held well below their season average of 77.8 points per game.

ASVEL's defense made life difficult for Iberostar Tenerife

"Even on a day when our offense wasn't that good, we got a win that was very important for us," said Iberostar Tenerife's leading scorer with 12 points, Greece international Georgios Bogris.

"It's a great day for us because we've made it to the Final Four of a great competition, the Basketball Champions League, and we're really happy.

"In the beginning of the season, our goals were not even close to this and after really good work during the season, improving day by day, we've made it."
