Play-Off Quarter-Finals Report: Venezia use perfect home record to secure Final Four place

VENEZIA MESTRE (Basketball Champions League) - Umana Reyer Venezia extended their perfect home record in the Basketball Champions League to 10-0 to grab a spot at the Final Four after defeating Pinar Karsiyaka 74-66 in the second leg on Wednesday evening.

Erasing what was a nine-point deficit on aggregate in the third quarter, Venezia turned the screw and ran away from their Turkish counterparts the rest of the way.

Melvin Ejim proved to be the difference maker, finishing with 16 points and 11 rebounds along with a number of high flying dunks, MarQuez Haynes had all of his 11 in the first half, and Venezia were a +14 team with Hrvoje Peric on the floor - the Croatian had 11 points in just 16 minutes of play.

"There is great satisfaction in winning this game," said Walter De Raffaele, the Umana Reyer Venezia Head Coach.

"We qualify to the Final Four; the first time for this club, the first time for me, so it's a historical qualification. I want to share this and say thanks to all the technical staff, the medical stuff, the trainers, all the fans that were here and really follow us, and a big thanks to my players because they really follow me.

"I want to underline that we don't just win for heart, we win with technique, tactics, because we really changed the game in the third quarter."

J'Covan Brown led Pinar with 23 points, whilst Josh Owens had 16.

"It was a very important game in the season for us and obviously we are disappointed in the outcome," Owens dismayed afterwards.

"We controlled the game and had it running the way we want in the first half and then got away from ourselves in the second half. We gave up some open shots that they're capable of making and couldn't close the gap at the end of the game. Overall I'm just disappointed."

Venezia will now await to find out their opponents at the Final Four; the draw is being made next week.
