24 things to look out for in Wednesday's games

    Preview
Another chance for Rytas to fly high at home

Games from Group A and Group C will be featured on Wednesday.

MIES (Switzerland) - Will Promitheas Patras BC Vikos Cola's winning streak continue also on the road in Lithuania? Will Joventut Badalona stay unbeaten by condemning Bursaspor Basketbol to a 0-3 start?

It's too early to have the answers to such questions, which will be solved after the four-game schedule in Group A and Group C.

In the meantime, one could still prepare by taking a look at the 24 facts on Wednesday's action.

MLP Academics Heidelberg vs. Legia Warszawa - Group A, October 22 at 18:30 CET

DJ Horne earned a spot in the BCL Team of the Week following his 33-point night
    • MLP Academics Heidelberg will play their third game in the BCL, having lost on the road against Promitheas and won at home against Rytas Vilnius, while trailing at halftime on both occasions. Heidelberg’s two BCL games have seen both teams score more than 80 points.

    • Legia Warszawa have won just one of their eight games in the BCL, but that sole victory happened while playing on the road (71-66 at Filou Oostende in November 2022); historically, they have scored more points away from home (76.5ppg) than when playing in front of their fans (70ppg) in the BCL.

    • Heidelberg and Legia have both conceded 18.5 fast-break points per game in the BCL this season, more than any other team, but at the same time, the German side is the only team scoring 20+ points per game from fast-break situations (22.0).

    • DJ Horne (Heidelberg) has scored more than 20 points in each of his first two BCL games and will try to become only the seventh player to have had more than 20 points in each of his first three games in the league: Horne is making 62 percent of his attempted FG, 57 percent of his threes, and 100 percent of his free throws.

    • Jayvon Graves has combined for more than 10 points and more than five assists in each of his two BCL games with Legia, but has never had a longer such sequence in the competition.

    • Heidelberg extended their stay in the BBL Pokal by taking down Ludwigsburg 82-73 once again thanks to DJ Horne's leadership, as he provided 23 points, 5 assists, and 4 rebounds in the win; Legia also had a successful weekend, beating Energa Czarni Slupsk 87-76 with Andrzej Pluta's 15 points and 6 rebounds.

Rytas Vilnius vs. Promitheas Patras Vikos Cola - Group A, October 22 at 18:30 CET

This won't be the first clash between Rytas Vilnius and Promitheas Patras
    • This will be the third BCL encounter between Rytas and Promitheas, with the home team of the day winning the previous two encounters; however, both those games, in October and November 2023, ended with a two-point differential.

    • Rytas have won 10 of their last 12 home games in the BCL, with the two defeats in that span being against Unicaja (82-83) and against another Greek team (92-110 vs. Peristeri). Promitheas have won their first two BCL games this season, but only once have they won more to start a campaign (W4 in 2018-19).

    • Only VEF Riga (13.0) are averaging fewer assists per game than Rytas and Promitheas (14.0 each) in the BCL this season; Promitheas are also one of the two teams, with Elan Chalon, to have made more turnovers (30) than assists (28) so far.

    • Gytis Radzevicius has scored more than 10 points in each of his last four BCL games, his longest scoring sequence in the competition. Of the players currently in the league, only Marcelinho Huertas has had more double-doubles (12) than the Lithuanian (8).

    • Leyton Hammonds has scored more than 12 points in three of his seven BCL games, with his team winning each of those three fixtures – two of those games happened with Promitheas this season: he has made seven threes this term, more than in his five previous games combined (6 3PM).

    • Rytas avoided Neptunas' comeback to win 97-93 in the LKL as Ignas Sargiunas stepped up with a 25-point winning effort over 6-of-9 from deep; Leyton Hammonds' 21 points and 6 rebounds weren't enough for Promitheas, which lost 75-73 at home to former BCL participants PAOK.

Cholet Basket vs. Hapoel Netanel Holon - Group C, October 22 at 20:00 CET

T.J. Campbell is the heart and soul of Cholet Basket
    • Cholet Basket have won four of their six home games in the BCL Regular Season, but one of their two defeats was against Hapoel Netanel Holon, 71-89 in January 2021. They have won their first home game in both of their previous two BCL seasons.

    • Holon have lost their last three games played in France in the BCL after winning four of their previous five; four of their last five games played in France saw a win of the team trailing at halftime.

    • Cholet Basket have grabbed 43.8 percent of the rebounds available under their opponents’ basket, the highest ratio of all teams; Holon are one of the five teams to have grabbed fewer than 25 percent of the rebounds available on the offensive board (23.1%).

    • T.J. Campbell (Cholet) has made 5+ assists in seven of his last nine home games in the BCL, including in each of his most recent four; however, he failed to reach 10 points in his last six home games in the competition. He has won his previous two BCL matchups with Holon.

    • Todd Withers (Holon) has made 3+ three-pointers in each of his last five BCL games with at least 10 minutes played, including three in his last trip to Cholet, back in December 2023 with Darussafaka; he has made 22 three-pointers in the competition while making only nine two-pointers.

    • Featuring in the clash between French teams in the BCL, Cholet beat Elan Chalon 98-79 as Jamuni McNeace went close to a double-double at 16 points and 9 rebounds; Xavier Munford had 19 points to contribute to Holon's 78-77 road win over Hapoel Jerusalem on Saturday.

Joventut Badalona vs. Bursaspor Basketbol - Group C, October 22 at 20:45 CET

What a start for Ante Tomic in Season X of the Basketball Champions League
    • Joventut have won their first two BCL games by margins of more than 15 points – until now, only two other teams have won their first three games in the competition by 16 or more points, and both are from Spain: Unicaja in 2021 and La Laguna Tenerife in 2016.

    • Bursaspor have lost their last two BCL games but have never lost three in a row in the competition; their heaviest defeat in the BCL came the only time they previously travelled to Spain, 48-68 against Breogan in October 2023.

    • Bursaspor have scored only 22.0 points in the paint per game in the BCL this season, the lowest average of all teams; on the other side, only Le Mans (25.0) have conceded fewer points in the paint on average than Joventut (27.0).

    • Already seven players have scored in double-figures for Joventut in the BCL this season, with Ante Tomic being the only one to have done it twice. He has combined for 10+ points, 5+ rebounds, and 5+ assists in each of his two games, but no one has done it in his first three appearances in the competition.

    • Bryant Crawford (Bursaspor) has scored 10+ points in each of his last nine BCL games and had 17 points and 7 assists the only previous time he travelled to Spain, in November 2022 with Igokea against Bilbao. He made at least 80 percent of his two-pointers in the last three BCL games, where he attempted at least one after having such accuracy in only one of his previous six games.

    • Joventut's perfect streak extended to 5-0 between BCL and ACB, where they beat 101-69 the reigning FIBA Europe Cup winners Bilbao with an all-around night by Ricky Rubio (11 points, 9 assists, and 6 rebounds); Bursaspor enjoyed the 84-69 win over former BCL team Manisa as Landry Nnoko dominated at the glass with 14 rebounds.
