AEK receives winner's prize money


MIES, Switzerland (Basketball Champions League) - On Wednesday, during the Qualification Rounds and Regular Season draw at the House of Basketball in Geneva, AEK officially collected the cheque reserved for the winner of the competition.

On Sunday 6 May, AEK became the second winners of the Basketball Champions League after a 100-94 win over AS Monaco in the Final game of the Final Four. The Greek side, host of the Final Four of the Basketball Champions League second season, won 77-75 over UCAM Murcia in Semi-Finals two days earlier.

Represented by Dragan Sakota, former Head Coach and newly-appointed Technical Director of AEK, the club received its €1,000,000 winning cheque from Markus Studer, Chairman of the Basketball Champions League Board, on the occasion of the third season Qualification Rounds and Regular Season draw.

This second season of the Basketball Champions League saw 56 clubs competing in the competition (32 in the Regular Season), representing 30 participating countries and 21 national champions.

The direct prize money allocated to the participating clubs reached the amount of €3.5 million, including €1,000,000 for the end-winner of the competition. The French side AS Monaco, by finishing at the second position, received a prize money of €400,000. The third placed team, UCAM Murcia, received a €200,000 cheque whereas the German club of MHP Riesen Ludwigsburg, received a prize money of €140,000 for their fourth position.
