Watson carries Le Mans past Oradea

LE MANS (Basketball Champions League) - The whiff of upset was in the air in France on Gameday 4 with CSM CSU Oradea looking to build on their victory over Avtador Saratov but Le Mans got a heroic performance from Giordan Watson and pulled away in the last couple of minutes for a 72-61 Group B triumph.

His previous high in the competition had been 11 in the team's rout of Khimik a couple of weeks ago, but Watson poured in 24 this time to fire Le Mans to victory.

Watson hit big shot after big shot to keep his team in the game and then with 2:57 remaining, he put them in front to stay. He spotted up from behind the arc and connected for a 62-59 lead. The 1.75m point guard then drilled another 3-pointer on his team's next trip down the floor.

When the game was over, he had a shooting line to admire. The 31-year-old was 10 of 14 from the floor, including 4 of 7 from long range. Watson also handed out 4 assists on the night.

"Games like this in international European competition, it's crazy. Anything can happen," Watson said.

"You just have to be tough. You can't get too happy, or you can't get too sad. You have to stay the same, stay calm, stay relaxed."
