Oostende use Gillet's dagger threes to dispatch of Cibona

OOSTENDE (Basketball Champions League) - It wasn't until two Pierre-Antoine Gillet three pointers a minute apart with three minutes remaining did Telenet Oostende get enough of a cushion to pull away for an 82-70 win over Cibona on Wednesday night.

Having let Cibona back into the game after leading by as many as 16, Gillet hit his first with a little over four minutes to play after Oostende's lead had dwindled to just 6, and then his second 60 seconds later sandwiched around a Corey Walden basket to provide a 14 point lead.

And despite the win, Oostende Head Coach Dario Gjergja was not convinced by his squad's performance.

"Tough game," he commented. "A game with a few phases for us I would say. The first phase where we dominate in every segment of the game. We controlled the rhythm, tempo, everything, then we go plus 16 and I don't know, some virus came in us where we just stopped. First of all defence, second of all, we didn't respect any offensive rules and we didn't execute well."

The win moved Telenet Oostende to one game with .500 at 3-4 in fifth place in Group D.

"I'm happy to win, we really need to win these home games because it's important for us if we want to keep going in the Champions League," said Khalid Boukichou, who led Oostende with 20 points on 9 of 11 shooting.

"I think we played good like a team, we fell down at moments during the game but reacted well in the last quarter which gave us the win tonight."

Cibona were led by 18 points from Zeljko Sakic but it wouldn't prevent them falling to 2-5 in seventh place.
