Iberostar Tenerife grab thrilling road win off Davin White late and-one

AVELLINO (Basketball Champions League) - Iberostar Tenerife grabbed a thrilling road win over Sidigas Avellino, in a game that was flipped on its head in a dramatic final minute.

Davin White’s daring three-point play with 2.6 seconds remaining gave Tenerife a 77-76 victory, moments after Adonis Thomas split a pair at the line to leave the door ajar for a comeback.

Marco Cusin was adjudged to have brushed White as he flew in for the layup, one of those fine margins on which games are won and lost. Joe Ragland’s tough lefty floater rimmed out on the buzzer ensuring a happy flight home for the Canary Islanders.

Deep into crunch time it looked like Avellino would gain a valuable win, as a classy baseline jumper from Levi Randolph and a Ragland layup put them ahead 74-71. One of basketball’s timeless debates is whether or not to foul up three, and Avellino might live to regret the call to foul White. He calmly sank both freebies with 16 seconds remaining then Thomas crucially only split his two from the line.

It looked like the NBA-calibre duo of Randolph and Thomas would win the game for the Italian team, as they combined for 47 points, but Tenerife kept working the pick and roll with Greek centre Georgios Bogris who led his team with 22 points, along with 7 rebounds. That and White’s calmness under pressure gave the visitors a memorable victory.

Avellino drops to 4-2 while Tenerife jumps up to the same record in Group D.
