Lenovo Tenerife, Prometey finish regular season with wins in Group A

MIES (Switzerland) - With positioning on the line in so many groups of the Basketball Champions League, Group A was an exception, as the standings were already set before tonight's final regular season games.

Lenovo Tenerife finished the regular season on a high note and showed no mercy to Banco di Sardegna Sassari, defeating the Italian club 84-63.

Tenerife led the game for 38:25 and outscored Sassari by 24 points from the three-point line (12-of-26 compared to 4-of-19).

Marcelinho Huertas (16 points, 3 rebounds, 2 assists) and Giorgi Shermadini (16 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists) led the way for Tenerife.

The two players combined to shoot an efficient 11-of-15 from the field and a perfect 8-of-8 from the free-throw line.

"We suffered a bad loss against Ludwigsburg last game and we've been struggling a little bit in the league," said Sean Smith. "So it feels good to win a game after a couple of bad games and a lot of players needed this game to get back in good shape."

As the second place team from Group A, Tenerife will face the third place team from Group B, which will be Hapoel Bank Yahav Jerusalem, Pinar Karsiyaka or Arged BM Stal Ostrow Wielkopolski.

Tyus Battle led Sassari with 16 points and 7 rebounds in the loss.

Prometey end with win over group winner Ludwigsburg

Prometey defeated MHP Riesen Ludwigsburg 71-60, the fewest points scored by Ludwigsburg this season.

Chris Dowe (17 points, 8 rebounds, 6 assists, 2 steals), D'Angelo Harrison (15 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists) and Miro Bilan (10 points, 6 rebounds, 2 steals, 4 blocks) combined for roughly 59% of Prometey's 71 points.

"First off, just happy we got the win," said Dowe. "This game didn't really have any meaning, but we still wanted to come out here and play hard against one of the best teams in the BCL so far this year. Happy we pulled out the win and continued our momentum from our Ukrainian League."

Prometey grabbed 21 offensive rebounds and turned them into 22 second chance points, while Ludwigsburg had 13 second chance points.

In what was a solid all-around game from Prometey, they only made two free-throws, which was the fewest for a team in the BCL this season.

As the third place team from Group A, Prometey will face the second place team from Group B which will be Jerusalem, Karsiyaka or Ostrow.

Justin Simon led Ludwigsburg with 17 points, 5 rebounds and 2 steals.

As Group A winners, the German club know that they will be in a Round of 16 group with Group E winners Galatasaray Nef.
