Facts of Week 11 - Group C

MIES, Switzerland (Basketball Champions League) - Let's have a look at some key facts for this week's Games of the Week in group C.

medi Bayreuth (GER) v Banvit (TUR)

  • medi Bayreuth lost by 11 points the previous encounter between these teams this season (74-85), their biggest margin of defeat in a BCL game.
  • Banvit have lost only one of their seven games against a German team in the BCL (W5 D1), it was last season in the first leg of the quarterfinals against Ludwigsburg (87-92).
  • Only Iberostar Tenerife (28.9) have grabbed more defensive rebounds on average per game than Banvit (28.2) this season in the BCL.
  • Banvit’s Gasper Vidmar (1st – 70.3%) and medi Bayreuth’s Andreas Seiferth (3rd – 67.1%) are two of the top three more accurate centers at 2pts in the BCL this season.
  • Only Scott Wood (329) has played more minutes than Angelo Caloiaro (326) in the BCL 2017/18.

"If you take the first leg as a benchmark, then you see that we have quite a realistic chance to create a surprise. We were able to control the first leg for more than three quarters and it was just at the end of the game when we run out of gas a little playing without Assem, Robin and John. The team line-up of the Turks is very high-caliber, especially under the basket with Gasper Vidmar and Damian Kulig, who gave us a hard time," said Raoul Korner, Head Coach of medi Bayreuth.

"With Andy Rautins, who was signed shortly before our game in Turkey, they now have a player who gives them exactly what they had the least before, namely outside shooting especially from the guard position. For us it counts like in all the other games before, namely to be once again ready to give all we got. After we could not win the match against Ljubljana, this game may already be decisive, because with Venice we only have one more home game coming. To win on the road against Madrid or Athens will be extremely difficult. I guess you need two more wins to get into the playoffs. We still have two home games left, so I do not need to be a Nobel laureate in Mathematics to assess what is most realistic."

Petrol Olimpija (SLO) v Movistar Estudiantes (ESP)

  • Petrol Olimpija won by 6 points the first encounter between these teams in the BCL (81-75).
  • Petrol Olimpija have won three of their last four BCL games (L1) after winning only one of their first six (L5).
  • Movistar Estudiantes have attempted on average more FG (67.7) and more 3PT (30.5) per game than any other team in the BCL this season.
  • No team has scored fewer FT in a BCL game this season than Movistar Estudiantes (3) during their first encounter against Petrol Olimpija on GD4.
  • No other center has claimed more defensive rebounds than Olimpija’s Jordan Morgan (56) in the BCL this season.
