Excellent Berisha named MVP of the Week

NYMBURK (Basketball Champions League) - It hasn't taken Dardan Berisha long to make a big impact on the Basketball Champions League.

The 1.91m (6ft 3in) guard, who joined CEZ Nymburk in late November, erupted for a season-high 24 points on Tuesday and steered the club to a 106-98 triumph over Telekom Baskets Bonn.

The Kosovo international, who also had 5 rebounds and 6 assists and walked off the court with a sparkling +24 efficiency, has been named as the competition's MVP of the Week.

Nymburk improved to 7-3 with the win, the same record as Group B leaders Besiktas and second-top Nanterre 92.

All smiles after the game, Berisha was only concerned about the victory.

"We were ready for a good fight," Berisha said. "I think we played a very good team. Of course, we had had some bad moments but we deserved to win and we keep moving forward."

Since Berisha's arrival, all the Czech giants have done is win. Nymburk have reeled off four victories in a row and Berisha has been very influential in the last three.

After a low-key 6-point effort on his Nymburk bow, an 88-82 win at Stelmet Enea Zielona Gora on December 6, he poured in 18 in a 90-84 triumph at Nanterre 92. In the team's last Basketball Champions League game of 2017 on December 19, Berisha had 15 points in a 71-65 victory at Aris.

The club, and the player, are on a roll.

Tough games will be coming up in the Basketball Champions League. Nymburk will square off against Besiktas next week in Istanbul and then host fourth-place Sidigas Avellino (5-5) on January 23.

Nymburk visit fifth-place Oostende (4-6) on January 31 before wrapping up the Regular Season on February 7 at home against Zielona Gora (3-7).
