Estudiantes hold off AEK to record opening victory
ATHENS (Basketball Champions League) - Movistar Estudiantes opened up their Basketball Champions League Regular Season debut with a 79-87 win over AEK Athens on the road.
Though the Spanish side led from start to finish, the final score was not reflective of the game, as AEK battled from as many as nineteen down to reduce the lead to one in the fourth quarter.

Estudiantes can thank the trio of Sylven Landesburg, Alec Brown and Omar Cook. Landesburg finished with a game-high 28 points, Brown added 24, whilst Cook had 7 of his 9 assists in the first half, as well as some timely baskets down the stretch.
Landesburg and Brown combined to go 17 of 26 from the floor, adding 12 rebounds and 4 assists between them as the home side could not come with any answers.
Omar Cook had six points in the final three minutes, including a dagger three-pointer from deep with 1:48 remaining to help Estudiantes regain a double-digit cushion. They would need all of those baskets, after a 10-1 run to open the final period had seen AEK get right back into the contest.
However, with the lead down to one, Vasilis Xanthopoulos was forced to leave the game after tweaking something on a coast-to-coast drive, and as he exited, Landesburg and Cook checked back in to take advantage.
Delroy James led AEK with a 21-point, 10-rebound double-double, captain Dusan Sakota had 16, whilst Xanthopoulos joined them in double figures, registering 14 points.
