PAOK edge Capo D'Orlando for first win

CAPO D'ORLANDO (Basketball Champions League) - Lucky Jones poured in 17 points and corralled 11 rebounds for PAOK as they edged Capo D'Orlando in a battle of 0-2 teams in Group B, 63-58, in Sicily.

With the hosts having all sorts of trouble getting into an offensive flow, PAOK led 32-19 at half-time and they were still in front 49-38 with a quarter remaining.

Capo D'Orlando, with Jakub Wojciechowski digging in on both ends of the floor and hitting some tough shots, helped keep them within striking distance. Arnoldas Kuboka also managed to get open and strike from long range on three occasions in the second half. He finished with a team-high 15 points for the home side.

The Italians had a late opportunity to pull even while trailing 60-58 but Justin Edwards was denied on his way to the basket by Ousman Krubally and missed a difficult layup.

Jones was fouled on the play and made two free-throws to extend the lead to four. Wojciechowski's missed 3-pointer with nine seconds remaining effectively clinched the win for the visitors from Greece, who got another free-throw from Jones for the 5-point triumph.

Owen Classen was a key player coming off the bench for PAOK. He had 10 points and 8 rebounds, 5 coming on the offensive glass.

PAOK are now 1-2 heading into a Gameday 5 match-up with Elan Chalon in France while Capo D'Orlando will carry an 0-3 record into a meeting at defending champions Iberostar Tenerife.
