Elan Chalon survive after Neptunas comeback

CHALON (Basketball Champions League) - Elan Chalon blew a 15-point lead against Neptunas Klaipeda but still managed to claim an 86-81 victory.

Beaten in the first encounter in Lithuania by Neptunas, 75-73, Chalon came out firing and hit 9 3-pointers in the first half.

Four of those were made by Pierre Antoine Gillet, who missed last week's win at Gaziantep while recovering from a sprained ankle.

On his last 3-ball, Gillet was fouled. He made the free-throw for a 4-point play.

Neptunas, whose star players Arnas Butkevicius and Mindaugas Girdziunas have just left the club to play for Lithuanian giants Lietuvas Rytas, battled back in the second half. Juan Palacios put a difficult first 20 minutes behind him to lead the charge. He finished with a game-high 18 points and 8 rebounds.

His two baskets in a span of 30 seconds lifted the visitors into a 79-78 advantage with 3:00 remaining.

But Lance Harris came to the rescue. With the ball in the right corner, Harris dropped his shoulder while being closely guarded and freed himself to step back behind the arc and he drilled a 3-pointer that put his team in front to stay.

Shortly after, Renaldas Seibutis dribbled the ball of his foot and out of bounds for Neptunas and then Palacios turned the ball over while attempting to pass to an open Laurynas Beliauskas in the right corner.

Darrin Dorsey then hit 5 of 6 free-throws in the last minute to ice the win and to finish as Elan Chalon's leading scorer with 16 points.

In winning for the second straight time in the Basketball Champions League, the French side improved to 4-4 while Neptunas, coming off a tough loss at Iberostar Tenerife, fell for the second consecutive game and dropped to 5-3.
