Venezia seal second place in Group B with Oradea takedown

VENEZIA-MESTRE (Basketball Champions League) - Umana Reyer Venezia defeated CSM CSU Oradea 89-78 and finished up second in Group B after a three-way tie.

Despite a slow slow start, Venezia took control of the game five minutes in and never gave up their lead the rest of the way, extending it to as many as 18 on their way to victory.

MarQuez Haynes led Venezia with a team-high 17 points, Mike Bramos went 4 of 6 from the field and 5 of 5 at the line for an efficient 15 points, whilst Hrvoje Peric didn't miss a shot on his way to 12 points, 4 rebounds and 4 assists.

Captain Thomas Ress said:

"I think it was a tough game they for sure wanted to win as they needed the win to advance to the second round. We knew they were gonna come out and fight for every ball.

"We tried to play our basketball, we had a very good shooting percentage in the first half and that gave us a lot of confidence."

Oradea were led by 18 points and 9 assists from Branko Mirkovic, and 19 points on 6 of 9 shooting from Sean Dennison.

"They came out really strong in the first half and took a lot of balls from us, we had a lot of turnovers," Denison commented.

"They played aggressive and it was hard for us to come back from that. They're a great team and I thought we played well towards the end, we fought, but in the end, they played better tonight."
