Sidigas Avellino book Play-offs spot with Oostende victory

OOSTENDE (Basketball Champions League) - Sidigas Avellino booked their Basketball Champions League Play-offs spot with a 78-73 away victory over Telenet Oostende on Wednesday night.

Avellino used a 12-1 run at the end of the opening period to gain control of the game for good as they would lead the rest of the way, at times going up by as many as 15.

Adonis Thomas had 14 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists, Joe Ragland had 14 points and Marques Green had 11 points, 2 rebounds and 3 assists to lead Avellino.

"That was a great win, that puts us in a great position," Thomas said.

"Going into Tenerife and playing in Spain, we want to get that first position. That is one our goals, to continue grinding it out. We played great team basketball, everybody found each other. We played very strong, we attacked the rim, we made some outside shots, that gave us the lead early."

A late charge from Oostende saw them reduce the deficit to 5 in the final quarter but they were unable to get over the hump, as Avellino moved to 8-3 in second place in Group D. Randolph added 9 points and 4 rebounds and commented:

"It was a good game, we followed the game plan and did the things that coach asked us to do.

"Today was a defensive game. We handled our business on that end and came out with the win."

Rasko Katic had 16 points on 6/8 shooting in just 20 minutes for Oostende, whilst Khalid Boukichou had 10 points and 8 rebounds on 5/7 shooting, as they fell to 4-7 with the defeat.
