Champions' Path Quarter-Finals: Dolphins stun Kalev/Cramo; Bakken, Benfica reach triple digits

ANTALYA (Turkiye) - The Basketball Champions League Qualification Tournaments tipped off on Monday with four games in the Champions' Path (Tournament 1). The most dramatic one was between the champs of Estonia and Sweden.

Kalev/Cramo seemed to be running towards a comfortable win with a 14-point lead. However, the Norrkoping Dolphins did not give up, putting together a fourth quarter rally which saw them put up 30 points in ten minutes, taking the lead with two minutes to play and securing an 82-78 win.

Issac Vann and Nathan Dawit were the one-two punch for the Dolphins, both coming off the bench, both scoring 16 points on the day, combining for 7-of-11 shooting from beyond the arc. Adam Ramstedt had 13, Marcus Tyus 10 to add the starters to the double figures.

Mihkel Kirves scored 15 for Kalev/Cramo, but it was not enough to prevent an early exit.

The Dolphins will now face the Bears. That's because Bakken defeated Kosovo's KB Peja 103-79, taking a commanding lead early in the game and never looking back into the rear view mirror again.

Malik Parsons had 22 points in 22 minutes off the bench, but the most effective player for the perennial Danish champs was their club legend in Aarhus. Michel Diouf had 13 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists, 2 steals and a block, giving him an efficiency rating of 24.

The Bears and the Dolphins will play their Semi-Final on Wednesday. The other part of the bracket will see a battle of Portugal and Cyprus.

SL Benfica got used to Basketball Champions League experience last season, and they want more of the same, judging by their high tempo 122-62 win over TSU Tbilisi from Georgia.

All 12 players scored at least four points for coach Norberto Alves, led by Toney Douglas with 19 points in 18 minutes and Trey Drechsel with 18 points in 19 minutes. Giorgi Turdziladze had 19 for TSU, but there was nothing they could do about Benfica's 15-of-29 shooting night from the three-point range.

The champs of Portugal will now face Petrolina AEK Larnaca. A miraculous 20-0 first quarter propelled the Cypriot League title holders towards a 74-66 win over Patrioti Levice from Slovakia, putting them two steps away from reaching the Regular Season.

Jesse Hunt scored a team-high 19 points, while Taveion Hollingsworth had a big double-double with 17 points and 12 rebounds. Nick Griffin also scored 17, and Tookie Brown flirted with a points-assists double-double with 8 and 8 on the day.

On Tuesday, Qualification Round Tournament 3 will take place in Turkey. Eight teams will be in action in the same format of single game eliminations starting with the Quarter-Finals:

SIG Strasbourg v Jonava CBet
Karhu Basket v Ironi Hay Motors Ness Ziona
Legia Warszawa  v Fribourg Olympic
Mornar Barsko Zlato v Monbus Obradoiro
