Group C set: Holon's defeat sends Galatasaray to Round of 16

MIES (Switzerland) - In the final regular season games from Group C, Galatasaray Nef snuck into the top spot to go through to the Round of 16 thanks to Filou Oostende defeating Hapoel Atsmon Holon in overtime.

Galatasaray led by eight points after one quarter, but Legia Warszawa recovered in the second quarter and outscored them 31-18. The game once again flipped, as Galatasaray knocked down seven three-pointers in the third quarter to regain an eight-point lead which Galatasaray expanded upon in the final quarter for a 90-76 victory.

Tyrus McGee scored 20 points off the bench for Galatasaray and knocked down 5-of-8 three-pointers, while Angelo Caloiaro finished with a team-high efficiency rating after finishing with 14 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists.

Half of Galatasaray's points (45) came from beyond the arc, as they connected on 15-of-33 threes, while Legia only made 27.3 percent of their shots from deep.

Galatasaray finished the regular season winners of Group E with a record of 4-2 and the Turkish club will be in the Round of 16 Group K. Legia were already eliminated from the competition.

 

Oostende win overtime thriller, play spoiler for Holon

In a game that had 21 lead changes, Oostende held on for a 95-86 overtime win against Holon. The win snapped Oostende's three-game home losing streak in the BCL. The game was sent to overtime tied at 81 on a three-pointer at the buzzer by Shawn Dawson.

 

This was the fifth overtime game for both Oostende and Holon in their BCL history, which is tied for third most all-time behind SIG Strasbourg (9) and Reyer Venezia (6).

Despite Oostende letting Holon force overtime, they were able to defend their home court in the end behind Breein Tyree's monster performance of 31 points on 9-of-15 shooting from the field and 4-of-6 from three-point.

The 24-year-old went off when his team needed him the most, scoring 19 points in the fourth quarter and another 8 points in overtime, for a total of 27 points in the game's final 15 minutes. Tyree became the second player in the competition this season to record 30+ points and 5+ rebounds.

 

Rebounds turned out to be an important factor in the game, as Oostende outrebounded Holon 47-33 and 14-6 in offensive rebounds which led to a 17-7 advantage in second chance points.

Oostende had already clinched third place in Group C with a record of 3-3, and the Belgian club will face the second-place team from Group D, which will either be Igokea m:tel or Bahcesehir College. Holon, meanwhile, finished second in the group with a record of 4-2 and the Israeli club will face off against whoever finishes third between Igokea and Bahcesehir.
