Tuesday Play-In games preview: How many of the series will end in a sweep?

MIES (Switzerland) - The third week of the Play-In round of the Basketball Champions League begins Tuesday January 18 with five games, and all of them have the potential to be series sweeps. Will that happen? Time will tell.

Here are the five Play-In games scheduled for Tuesday, as well as one game that has been rescheduled:

Game 2: B3 Pinar Karsiyaka vs. A2 Lenovo Tenerife (Tenerife lead series 1-0)

Where: Izmir, Turkey

When: 20:00

Game 1: Tenerife defeated Karsiyaka 76-69

  • Karsiyaka have lost their last two home games in the BCL but are yet to lose three in a row in the competition; they failed to score 70+ points in those two games after scoring 70+ points in 22 of their previous 23 such games.
  • Tenerife have won each of their eight games played in the BCL against Turkish clubs; they have won each of their three previous trips to Turkey with final margins greater than 10 points (+17 on average).
  • Karsiyaka have made on average 5.1 blocks per game in the BCL 2021-22, more than any other team; they have made 4+ blocks in each of their last six BCL games after reaching that tally in only three of their previous 24 games in the competition.
  • Alex Tyus could play his fourth game against Tenerife in the BCL for what could be only his 8th game in the competition (previously two with Galatasaray in 2020-21 and one in the last game); he scored his most points in a BCL game during the first leg against Tenerife (16) and he is currently averaging 2.5 blocks per game this season, second best average among all players in the BCL this season.
  • Tenerife's Marcelinho Huertas has recorded six double-doubles with 10+ points and 10+ assists, including during the first leg (18 pts, 10 ast), at least two more than any other player in BCL history; the last three of those double-doubles came during knockout stage games (vs. Filou Oostende in the round of 16
2019-20, vs. SIG Strasbourg in the QF 2020-21 and during the first leg).

Game 2: A3 Prometey vs. B2 Hapoel Bank Yahav Jerusalem (Jerusalem lead series 1-0)

*Note: This game has been postponed, following the Return to Play Protocol established by the BCL, and is now rescheduled for Tuesday January 25.

Where: Zaporizhzhya, Ukraine

When: 19:00

Game 1: Jerusalem defeated Prometey 95-70

  • Jerusalem (41.3) and Prometey (40.3) are two of the four teams to grab an average 40+ rebounds per game in the BCL this season, with the team from Israel topping that chart.
  • Chris Dowe scored only five points in the last game against Jerusalem, his lowest in a BCL game with Prometey; however he has scored 10+ points in each of his last six home games in the
competition (13 pts on average per game), a run that includes a game against Hapoel Jerusalem with Anwil Wloclawek in January 2020 (10 pts, 6 reb, 5 ast).
  • Jerusalem have won the four games where Kaiser Gates played as a starter in the BCL this season and lost the three where he came off the bench; the 21 points scored by Gates since playing as a starter all came from behind the arc (seven 3-pointers made).
