Strasbourg use big fourth quarter to pull away from Falco Szombathely

SZOMBATHELY (Hungary) - With their impressive 85-63 road win over Falco Szombathely, SIG Strasbourg have now already won almost as many games (two) as they did in the regular season group play (three).

Strasbourg were again without leading scorer and assist man, guard John Roberson, as well as forward Jaromir Bohacik.

The 22-point margin was Strasbourg's largest-ever in a BCL road game.

Turning point: It was a back-and-forth affair in the first half, as there were 11 lead changes, with both teams extending their lead to as many as only five points each.

After being up 56-54 near the end of the third quarter, Strasbourg then went on a 29-9 run to close the game out over the course of the end of the third quarter and fourth quarter.

Game hero: DeAndre Lansdowne had his highest scoring game of the BCL season and led Strasbourg with 22 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals on 10-of-16 shooting from the field, 8-of-10 from two-point and 2-of-6 from three-point.

The 32-year-old also recorded a game-high efficiency rating of 25.

Stats don't lie: Szombathely didn't play a clean game, as they finished with an 8:26 assist-to-turnover ratio, while Strasbourg turned those 26 turnovers into 28 points.

The 26 turnovers by Szombathely were the most by a team in the BCL so far this season, while their 8 assists were tied for the fewest by a team in the league this season along with Lavrio Megabolt (vs. Nutribullet Treviso on January 12, 2022).

Matt Mitchell (14 points) and Ike Udanoh (12 points) combined for 26 of Strasbourg's 27 bench points, as Strasbourg more than doubled Szombathely in points from the bench (27-12).

Udanoh threw down a couple dunks on his way to his 12 points:

Bottom line: Zoltan Perl led Szombathely with 21 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals on 8-of-11 shooting from the field and 2-of-2 from three-point, before being disqualified from the game after two unsportsmanlike fouls.

Perl has now scored more than 20 points in two games in the BCL this season, which is as many times as in his two previous seasons combined.

The 26-year-old got off to a hot start tonight with 13 points and 3 assists at halftime:

Szombathely are now 0-3 in the Round of 16 Group L after finishing regular season group play 5-1 and the Hungarian club will travel to face Lenovo Tenerife in their next game on March 9 at 19:30 CET.

Strasbourg are now 2-1 in the Round of 16 group and the French club will host Rytas Vilnius in their next game on March 8 at 20:00 CET.

Strasbourg have now won their last four road games in the BCL, extending their longest winning streak away from home in the competition.
