Hapoel U-NET Holon avoid elimination with win in Istanbul, force Game 3

ISTANBUL (Turkey) - Besiktas Icrypex were looking to sweep Hapoel U-NET Holon and move on to the Round of 16, but Holon had other plans, as they have now forced a Game 3 thanks to a 72-70 victory on the road.

The two games in this series have been decided by a total of three points, so it's only fitting that it goes to a third and final game.

Turning point: Besiktas led by as many as 16 points, but Holon closed the first half on a 13-5 run to cut their deficit to 37-44 at halftime.

Holon then outscored Besiktas 16-11 in the third quarter, as they only trailed 53-55 after three quarters.

Not even a minute into the final quarter, Holon took their first lead of the game and led by as many as seven points.

Holon's Chris Johnson had a chance to give them a two-point lead but went 0-of-2 from the free-throw line, only to have Kenan Sipahi come down and give Besiktas a two-point lead.

That didn't last long, as Guy Pnini did Guy Pnini things and knocked down a three to put Holon up 71-70 to seal the game.

Game hero: Chris Johnson led Holon with 18 points, 5 rebounds and 3 blocks, on 6-of-12 shooting from the field.

Stats don't lie: Holon scored 25 points off 15 Besiktas turnovers, while Besiktas scored 18 points off 12 Holon turnovers.

Besiktas only shot 8-of-13 from the free-throw line and could've used a couple of those misses in such a close game.

Besiktas have blocked at least 6 shots in four of their last six BCL games after doing it so in only three of their previous 66 games in the competition.

Bottom line: Dedric Lawson double-doubled in the loss for Besiktas with 13 points and 10 rebounds on 5-of-7 shooting from the field.

The series between Besiktas and Holon is now tied 1-1, as both teams have won on the road.

A deciding Game 3 will be in Holon on January 19.
