Week 6 Wednesday games preview

MIES (Switzerland) - The first week of action for December concludes on Wednesday with three encounters between teams that are tied at 1-1 and a Group D clash between two teams that are finally stepping out for only their second game in the 2020-21 Regular Season.

Here's a closer look at Wednesday's four-game slate in the Basketball Champions League:

Falco Szombathely (1-0) vs. Nizhny Novgorod (0-1) -- Group D, 18:00 CET


Zoltan Perl is on the cusp of putting together his longest double-digit scoring streak in the BCL

  • Falco are coming off an 104-97 win over OSE Lions in Hungarian league action on Saturday, behind 21 points and 6 assists from Kyan Anderson.

  • On the same day, Nizhny picked up a 79-69 win over Astana on the road in VTB United League action, with Evgenii Baburin leading five Nizhny players in double digits with his 15 points and 5 rebounds.

  • Nizhny have only played one game in the 2020-21 BCL, so the sample size is still very small, but they have an 78.8 percent defensive rebounding rate and a 41 percent offensive rebounding rate, the highest on both ends of the floor so far this season.

  • On a similarly small sample size, Falco attempted 50 two-point shots in their season opener, more than any other team (per game) in the league so far. The Hungarian team scored 57 percent of their points from two-point range.

  • Falco’s Zoltan Perl, who scored 14 or more points in each of his last three BCL appearances, is looking on Wednesday to string together four games scoring in double-digits for the first time in his career in the competition.
     

Turk Telekom (1-1) vs. Limoges CSP (1-1) -- Group G, 18:00 CET


The unfortunate Tyler Ennis has suffered a season-ending injury

  • Turk Telekom suffered a 94-60 loss at Besiktas in their last outing on Saturday, as Kamar Baldwin was the only player on the Ankara team to score in double digits. Turk Telekom dropped to 7-4 in the Turkish BSL standings following that defeat.

  • Limoges meanwhile last saw action on November 21, when they lost 86-59 at Monaco in the French Jeep Elite league.

  • Turk Telekom will step out in Tuesday's game without Nick Johnson who is recovering from illness and Tyler Ennis, who has suffered a season-ending injury. Limoges meanwhile have traveled to Ankara without Ludovic Beyhurst and Demarcus Nelson.

  • Turk Telekom have won eight of their nine home games in the BCL, including the last six. The Ankara team scored more than 85 points in each of their last three home games, after doing so in only one of their previous six.

  • Limoges give up a league-low (best) 3.5 second-chance points per game on average.

  • Turk Telekom's Kyle Wiltjer, who scored a BCL career-low 6 points in his last appearance, has never scored in single digits in consecutive games in the competition.

  • Phil Scrubb and Jerry Boutsiele have combined for 80 points over the first two games, which represents 52 percent of Limoges’ 155 points so far in the competition.

Hereda San Pablo Burgos (1-1) vs. Darüssafaka Tekfen (1-1) -- Group H, 18:30 CET

  • Burgos saw their win streak in the Spanish Liga Endesa come to an end on Sunday, as they fell 74-60 to Real Madrid at home despite 14 points from Dejan Kravic.

  • Darüssafaka meanwhile are coming off a comfy 78-54 win at Fethiye in the Turkish BSL league, behind 17 points and 8 rebounds from Grant Jerrett.

  • Burgos have won eight of their nine home games in the BCL, including the last six. The reigning BCL champions won their last four home games by an average margin of 17.5 points.

  • Burgos have a league-best assist-to-turnover ratio of 3.4 and an assist ratio of 24.2 percent (they dish an assist on 24.2 percent of their offensive possessions), which is also the highest in the league so far this season.

  • Omar Cook of Burgos is averaging 10 assists per game and is the second-leading player in assists so far this season, behind Tamir Blatt (among players with two or more games). Cook is averaging 7.2 assists per game over his career in the BCL, second only to Marcelinho Huertas (who is averaging 7.7 assists per game) among players with 15 or more games in the competition.

  • Andrew Andrews of Darüssafaka is the second-leading scorer in the league this season,  averaging 23 points per game.

Filou Oostende (1-1) vs. Happy Casa Brindisi (1-1) -- Group H, 20:00 CET


Oostende's Keye van der Vuurst de Vries is leading all U20 players in this season's BCL in scoring and assists

  • Oostende are coming off an 89-70 win over Brussels at home in Belgian EuroMillions league action, behind 16 points from Mario Nakic.

  • Brindisi picked up their ninth win in 10 games in the Italian Serie A on Sunday, 85-71 over Cantú, behind a double-double showing of 25 points and 10 rebounds by Nick Perkins.

  • Oostende, who have won their last three home games in the BCL and are looking to extend that streak to four wins at home in a row, which would be their longest in the competition. The Belgian team were trailing at the beginning of the fourth quarter in two of those last three home wins.

  • Brindisi have lost all eight road games they have played in the BCL and have currently the worse losing record behind Bakken Bears, who have a 0-9 record on the road. The Italian team gave up more than 90 points in each of their last seven road games.

  • Brindisi are leading the league in free-throw percentage with 94 percent from the line, having converted 47 of their 50 free-throws so far this season, including 33 of their last 35.

  • Oostende's Keye van der Vuurst de Vries is averaging 12 points and 7.5, leading all players under the age of 20 in the 2020-21 BCL. The Dutch international is also the only U20 player to have registered a double-double this season.

  • D'Angelo Harrison made all 15 of his free-throws in Brindisi's latest game, at Burgos, the most made free-throws without a miss in a single BCL game. The Brindisi guard leads the league in made free-throws (among players yet to miss a shot from the line) as he's converted a perfect 19 of his 19 attempts so far.
