The latest addition to the VEF Riga roster is Saulius Kulvietis, who joined as a free agent on February 12. The Lithuanian power forward spent large part of the 2019-20 season at JDA Dijon and averaged 7.3 points and 2.5 rebounds per game in the BCL.

In the summer, VEF had managed to lure Puerto Rico international Isaiah Pineiro to Europe, for the first time in his career. The 25-year-old forward spent last year at Stockton Kings and averaged 9.6 points and 5.1 rebounds per game before the 2019-20 season stoppage in the G League.

The Latvian champions have signed former Aris Thessaloniki power forward Michale Kyser, who played in the G League in the 2019-20 season. The 28-year-old American averaged 9 points and 6 rebounds per game for Lakeland Magic, Orlando's affilate team. In the 2018-19 edition of the FIBA Europe Cup, Kyser had averaged 6.7 points, 4.2 rebounds and 1.2 blocks per game for Aris.

VEF have brought 22-year-old guard Kristers Zoriks back home from the US.  Zoriks, who has suited up for the Latvian national team through all the youth categories,  played in the NCAA with Saint Mary's Gaels and averaged 3.7 points and 1 rebound per game in his last season.

The Riga club also recruited 23-year-old guard Kyle Allman who showed promise in the 2019-20 season, his first as a pro player. Allman joined Greek side Lavrio straight out of college and averaged 11.1 points, 2.3 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game in the Greek Basket League.

The Riga club have not only maintained their Latvian core but also succeeded in bolstering it this summer, after signing three domestic players. VEF managed to bring back Latvian international Aigars Skele, who last played for the club in 2015. The 27-year-old swingman spent last season with Kalev/Cramo and averaged 11.1 points and 4.5 assists per game in the Latvian-Estonian League.

The black-whites also brought back Artis Ate who left VEF a year ago to join Romanian side U-BT Cluj-Napoca. Ate averaged 8.1 points, 3.3 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game in the FIBA Europe Cup with the Cluj-Napoca club.

Another Latvian recruit is Marcis Vitols, a former member of domestic arch-rivals Ventspils.  The 28-year-old point guard averaged 6.4 points and 3.3 assists per game in the 2019-20 Latvian-Estonian League.
