Everything you need to know ahead of the 3rd Place Game

NIZHNY NOVGOROD (Russia) - Spain's Casademont Zaragoza are taking on France's SIG Strasbourg in the 3rd Place Game of the 2021 Basketball Champions League Final 8.

Here are a few interesting facts and figures to take on board before you sit down to watch the game that will decide which of the two teams finishes on the podium.

Casademont Zaragoza vs. SIG Strasbourg -- Sunday, 15:00 CEST (16:00 local time)

  • Zaragoza will play the 3rd place game for the second season in a row after losing in 2019-20 against another French team, JDA Dijon (70-65). Strasbourg will be the second French team to face Zaragoza in the BCL, after Dijon, who actually played three times against the Spanish team.

  • Strasbourg are looking to become the third different French team finishing a BCL season in the Top 3, after Monaco (3rd in 2017; 2nd in 2018) and JDA Dijon (3rd in 2020).

  • Zaragoza, who of course are coming off a loss to Pinar Karsiyaka in the Semi-Final, have lost back-to-back games in the competition only once, and that was at the 2020 Final 8.

  • Strasbourg have won the last five BCL games in which they scored 80 or more points and have lost the last five games in which they scored fewer than 80 points.

  • Zaragoza score a league-leading 19.8 points off turnovers per game. They had 26 points off turnovers against Pinar Karsiyaka.

  • Strasbourg lead the league in offensive rebound rate with 38.2 percent and average 14.5 offensive rebounds per game, which is the highest among teams that made it to the Play-Offs.

  • Rodrigo San Miguel will play his fourth medal game in BCL history and, if Zaragoza win, he will become the first player to have a gold, silver and bronze medal. He won the first two with Lenovo Tenerife in 2016-17 and 2018-19, respectively.

  • Zaragoza's Nicolas Brussino scored in double digits in each of his last six BCL games, his longest such streak in the competition. He is averaging 13.3 points, 6.8 rebounds and 5.8 assists over the last four BCL games.

  • Strasbourg's Bonzie Colson is averaging 11 points per game in this Final 8, after averaging 20.4 points per game over his previous eight BCL games.

  • Strasbourg's Brandon Jefferson on the other hand has scored 11 or more points in each of his last nine BCL games, after scoring in double digits in only one of his previous five games in the competition. Jefferson made at least two three-pointers in eight of his last nine games and has made each of his last 27 free-throws.
