Team of the Week: Brown, McFadden, Horsnby, Banks and Braimoh

MIES (Switzerland) - High-scoring games, impossibly tight battles, unpredictable endings - Gameday 2 of the BCL Regular Season had all that and more, thanks to some brilliant individual performances by several players in almost every contest.

So competition for a spot on the second Team of the Week of the season was fierce, but Brandon Brown of Nizhny Novgorod, Thaddus McFadden of San Pablo Burgos, Keith Horsnby of Polski Cukier Torun, Adrian Banks of Happy Casa Brindisi and Suleiman Braimoh of Hapoel Bank Yahav Jerusalem edged out the rest of contenders to earn a well-deserved place.

Here is the Team of the Week for Gameday 2:

BRANDON BROWN, Guard

You want to be popular with your team-mates? Try dishing out 9 assists, like Brandon Brown

Nizhny started the BCL season on a loss and were facing a tough trip to Bamberg on Wednesday, but Brown stepped up, guided his younger team-mates from tip-off to the final buzzer and propelled the Russian team to a super valuable 73-58 win on the road.

The 30-year-old point guard collected a near double-double of 19 points and 9 assists and added 4 rebounds and 2 steals.

Brown shot 9 of 12 from the field and reached an efficiency rating of 28 in as many minutes on the floor.

THADDUS McFADDEN, Guard

It’s raining buckets but it’s indoors, it’s a basketball game and Thad McFadden is involved? Then you know that he must have a wide smile on his face as he is scoring from every possible range and in every imaginable way.

The veteran guard drilled 5 triples in 8 attempts to score 20 points and help Burgos register the best offensive display of the season so far, in a 110-78 rout of Anwil Wloclawek on Tuesday.

McFadden, who also had 5 assists and 3 rebounds, collected an efficiency rating of 23 in just 21 minutes of action.

KEITH HORNSBY, Guard

The 27-year-old American was the man who punched Torun’s ticket to the BCL with an amazing buzzer-beating triple in qualification, so it was only fitting that he would lead them to their maiden win in the competition.

Hornsby poured in 28 points on an eye-popping of 11 from behind the arc on Tuesday, as the Polish side prevailed 97-81 over famed French opponent Strasbourg.

He added 4 rebounds and 1 assist in the 33 minutes he spent on the floor, for an efficiency rating of 26.

ADRIAN BANKS, Guard

Brindisi were coming off a loss at Neptunas in their opener and the veteran guard looked on Tuesday as a man on a mission to prevent the Italian side from losing again, this time in front of their home crowd.

Banks sunk 10 of his 14 shots, including 6 of 8 from downtown, as he scored 31 points which is the highest tally by any player so far this season. He just barely missed out on a double-double as he brought down 9 rebounds.

He also added 3 assists in his 33 minutes of action to round off a performance rated at 34 in terms of efficiency and Brindisi clinched a 76-75 win over Bonn at the death.

SULEIMAN BRAIMOH, Forward

It seemed only appropriate that Braimoh would be the player to come up with a huge steal 3:06 from the final buzzer that led to Hapoel’s go-ahead basket a few seconds later, as the Israeli team came from behind to beat AEK 85-78 in Wednesday’s big game.

That play was representative of the 30-year-old forward’s well-rounded performance, which provided Hapoel with the launchpad for their comeback.

Braimoh registered an efficiency rating of 25 as he finished with 17 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists, that one crucial steal and not even a single turnover in 28 minutes of play.
