Five things we learned this week - Gameday 3

MIES (Switzerland) - Did you know which is the highest-scoring game in Basketball Champions League history, which game had the most three-pointers and who is the first player to register three consecutive double-doubles with points and assists?

Find out all that and more as we have an alternative look at some facts and stats from this week's action!

1. A Holon Lot Of Points

UNET Holon and Polski Cukier Torun combined for 227 points in the Israeli team's 122-105 win in Poland, setting a new record for the most points scored in a Basketball Champions League game, including games that went into overtime.

No team has ever scored more points in a single BCL game than Holon's 122 points. They have also become the first team to make at least 70 percent of their 2-point shots and at least 50 percent of their 3-point attempts in a road game.

Holon's 47 converted shots are the most made field goals by a team in a single BCL game and the Israeli side's 34 assists are the joint-best tally alongside Avtodor Saratov, who dished out 34 assists against Kataja in October 2016, as well as the best assists tally for a team playing on the road.

2. Let's Go Downtown

The combined 33 three-pointers which Hapoel Yahav Bank Jerusalem and RASTA Vechta hit on Wednesday night is the most threes ever scored in a BCL game. The previous record was 31, in the game between Oradea and Kataja in January 2017. Vechta's 17 three-pointers are the best tally for a team so far in this BCL season.

AEK on the other hand made only two three-pointers in their win against Telenet Giants Antwerp, which is the lowest tally in a BCL game this season and AEK’s lowest tally in the competition. Interestingly, AEK previously scored 15 triples on Gameday 1 and 16 triples on Gameday 2.

3. How Many Buckets Is Enough Buckets?

Telenet Giants Antwerp scored only 51 points against AEK, which is not only the lowest offensive output by any team this season, but also Antwerp’s poorest offensive performance in BCL history.

The Belgian side however must feel better than Torun, who scored more than twice as many points against Holon, 105, only to become the first team ever to score so many points and lose a BCL game in regulation.

To add insult to injury, Torun became on Tuesday only the third team with three of their players scoring at least 20 points in a same game (Chris Wright had 25, Alade Aminu and Keith Hornsby had 20 each), but still lost the game.

4. Double (Double) Trouble

Chris Wright of Torun has become the first player in BCL history to post a double-double with points and assists in three consecutive games. He has also become the first player to post a double-double in each of his first three games in the competition.

Nizhny Novgorod became on Tuesday the first team this season to have two players registering a double-double in the same game. Brandon Brown finished with 15 points and 12 assists and Darrlyn Willis had 21 points and 10 boards in the Russian team's 89-69 win over Mornar Bar.

Latavious Williams of UNET Holon had 18 points and 12 rebounds against Torun, becoming the first player this season to post a double-double in less than 20 minutes on the court.

5. There Is More To A Statsheet Than Meets The Eye

Muhammed Baygül of Turk Telekom has become only the second player to post at least 20 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists without committing a single foul or turnover.

Shaquielle McKissic of Besiktas Sompo Sigorta has become the third player to get at least 20 points and at least 6 steals in the same game.

Sergi Garcia of RASTA Vechta has become the first player in almost a year to come off the bench and put up at least 15 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists.

Antwaine Wiggins of PAOK became the first player to score at least 15 points, grab at least 10 rebounds and come up with at least 4 steals coming off the bench.
