Everything you need to know ahead of Wednesday’s Gameday 2 fixtures

MIES (Switzerland) - Wednesday action features a mouth-watering clash between two teams ranked in the Top 10 of our Power Rankings in the second week of the season, as Hapoel Bank Yahav play host to AEK in Jerusalem.

There are six more potentially gripping games on the seven-game schedule, with the visit of highly-rated JDA Dijon to Klaipeda kicking off action. Let’s have a look at a host of very interesting facts and figures as we head into Wednesday’s games.


Neptunas Klaipeda v JDA Dijon (Group D) - 18:00 CET 

Deividas Gailius of Neptunas  came up big in the win over Brindisi and made Team of the Week

  • Neptunas are looking to win their first two games of a BCL season for the third time in their four campaigns in the competition, after 2016-17 and 2017-18.

  • JDA Dijon won their opening game, 87-68 against Falco Szombathely, but have never won consecutive games in the competition.

  • No team made more two-pointers on Gameday 1 than JDA Dijon (28) and Neptunas (26).

  • JDA Dijon committed less fouls (11) than any other team on Gameday 1 while Neptunas Klaipeda made the most turnovers (18).

  • Deividas Gailius of Neptunas became on Gameday 1 the first player to score at least 20 points and collect at least 7 rebounds and 7 assists in a BCL game in 2019.

 



Turk Telekom - Dinamo Sassari
(Group A) - 18:30 CET

 

  • Dinamo Sassari have won their last four games in the BCL, their best winning run in the competition. They have won only one of the four games they played against a Turkish team, but it was the last one, a 79-70 win over Pinar Karsiyaka in December 2017.

  • Turk Telekom, who beat UNET Holon 82-79, and Dinamo Sassari who won 79-78 against Lietkabelis, were the only two teams to win on Gameday 1 with a margin of three points or less.

  • Dinamo Sassari made 94 percent of their free-throws (16 of 17) on Gameday 1, which was the best percentage among the 32 teams in the first week.

  • Muhammed Baygül of Turk Telekom has scored in double digits in his last two BCL games, but hasn’t scored more than four points in his last three home games. His eight rebounds on Gameday 1 are his best tally in a BCL game.

  • Dyshawn Pierre of Sassari, who had 24 points and 12 rebounds against Lietkabelis and was named Week 1 MVP, was the only player to register a double-double on more than 20 points on Gameday 1 of this BCL season. He has scored at least 15 points in four of his last five away games in the competition.


Hapoel Bank Yahav Jerusalem v AEK (Group B) - 18:30 CET

J'Covan Brown has some very fond memories from last year's game against AEK

  • Hapoel Jerusalem and AEK have faced each other twice in the BCL, both games were last season and they split the victories, as the away team on the day won on both occasions.

  • Hapoel Jerusalem have lost only one of their nine home games in the BCL, and it was against AEK in December 2018 (83-70 for the Greek team).

  • AEK have lost only two of their last 13 away games in the BCL, with their latest defeat against Brose Bamberg in March 2019, but have not lost consecutive away games since November-December 2017.

  • AEK were the only team to score more than 100 points in the first week of this BCL season, making 71 percent of their two-pointers and 48 percent of their three-pointers - the best field goal shooting percentage of this Gameday 1.

  • J’Covan Brown of Hapoel Jerusalem was the top scorer for his team on Gameday 1, with 19 points. He had 21 points last season against AEK in the first week, his best scoring output off the bench in a BCL game.

 


Telenet Giants Antwerp v Teksut Bandirma (Group B) - 20:00 CET


Tyler Kalinoski went scoreless last week, is he up for a big scoring display on Wednesday?

  • Antwerp, who lost 90-76 to San Pablo Burgos in their season opener, have lost consecutive games only once in the competition, during Gamedays 4 and 5 last season.

  • Bandirma have lost their last four games in the BCL, as many as in their last 14 games in the competition. It’s their longest losing run in the competition.

  • Antwerp, who shot 47 percent from the foul line and Teksut Bandirma, who shot 45 percent from the stripe, are two of the three teams to have converted less than 50 percent of their free-throws on Gameday 1 of this BCL season.

  • Vincent Kesteloot of Antwerp scored 16 points on Gameday 1, which is his second-best tally in a BCL game, in 43 games appearances, after the 19 points he scored against a Turkish team, Besiktas Sompo Sigorta in December 2017.

  • Tyler Kalinoski of Bandirma was the player with the most minutes played without scoring a single point on Gameday 1, as he went scoreless in 25 minutes and 35 seconds of action.

 


Brose Bamberg v Nizhny Novgorod (Group C) - 20:00 CET


Bryce Taylor was the only Bamberg player to shoot over 50 percent from the floor in the loss against Nymburk 

  • Bamberg, who lost their season opener at Nymburk, have lost their last four games in the BCL, after winning nine of their previous 11. However, they have won their last five home games in the competition.

  • Nizhny Novgorod have lost their last four games in the BCL, their longest losing run in the competition. They have also lost five of their last six games on the road in the BCL.

  • Bamberg have made less than 40 percent of their field goal attempts in their last four BCL games. That happened only once in their first 17 games in the competition.

  • No other team has won more games after trailing at half-time since the 2018-19 season than Brose Bamberg, who have completed his second-half comeback in 5 games.

  • Evgenii Baburin of Nizhny has scored in double digits in four of his last five BCL games, as many times as in his first 14 games in the competition.

 

Peristeri winmasters v VEF Riga (Group C) - 20:00 CET 


Lester Medford of Riga delivered a solid all-round performance in the win over Mornar Bar

  • The only Greek and Latvian teams to have faced each other in the BCL are PAOK and Ventspils, with the team from Greece winning their four encounters, scoring at least 80 points in each of the four games.

  • Before this season, three of the four Greek teams that have taken part in the BCL have won their first two games in the competition. Peristeri won their first game, against Gaziantep.

  • Riga, who defeated Mornar Bar 80-74 in the opener, are looking to win their first two games of a BCL season, which has never happened before to a Latvian team.

  • Riga committed only seven turnovers in their first game of the season, less than any other team on Gameday 1.

  • Christos Saloustros of Peristeri scored 11 points on Gameday 1 but managed to score at least 10 points in consecutive games only once before in the BCL, during Gamedays 6 and 7 of the 2018-19 season.

  • Riga’s Lester Medford, who had 21 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists, and 2 steals against Mornar Bar, was the only player to score at least 20 points, to grab at least 5 rebounds, to dish out at least 5 assists and to make at least one steal during the first week of this BCL season.

 


BAXI Manresa v Lietkabelis (Group A) - 20:30 CET


Pencil in 10 points and 5 rebounds from Lietkabelis veteran Zeljiko Sakic on any given night

  • Spanish teams have lost their last three encounters against teams from Lithuania in the BCL, including twice against Lietkabelis, after having won all the first five such fixtures.

  • Manresa are hoping to win their first two games in the BCL after their win against Polski Cukier Torun on Gameday 1. Prior to this season, the four previous Spanish teams to have played in the BCL have managed to win their first two games in the competition.

  • Lietkabelis have won only one of their first eight away games played in the BCL, but that win came in Spain, against Montakit Fuenlabrada last season (85-78).

  • Manresa’s bench players scored 53 points in Week 1, and they were the only team with a second unit that contributed 50 or more points during Gameday 1 of this BCL season.

  • Zeljko Sakic of Lietkabelis registered his second double-double in the BCL last week. He has collected 10 or more points and 5 or more rebounds in 11 of his 13 BCL games.
