Ten takeaways from Week 1


MIES, Switzerland - The first week of this third season of the Basketball Champions League is just behind us. The perfect time to have a look at some key facts to take away after this week's games.

It’s the first time that three games have gone to overtime in the opening round of a BCL season: Nizhny Novgorod vs Sidigas Avellino (93-100), Lietkabelis vs Telenet Giants Antwerp (87-91) and Segafredo Virtus Bologna vs Neptunas Klaipeda (83-78). Three games going into overtime in a single round are a joint-high in a Basketball Champions League Gameday.

Teams

  • PAOK and Le Mans were the only teams on Gameday 1 with only one player scoring 10+ points: Yanick Moreira (14 points) for the Greeks and Cameron Clark (16 points) for the Frenchs.
  • SIG Strasbourg were the only team with two players scoring 20+ points in Gameday 1 (Nicolas Lang 21 & Ali Traore 20).
  • UNET Holon have made 17 3-pointers against Fribourg Olympic, the most among all teams in the opening Gameday. Only UNET Holon and Iberostar Tenerife scored 50% or more of their attempts from behind the arc in this season’s Gameday 1.
  • Iberostar Tenerife were the only team scoring 50% or more of their attempted FG and 50% or more of their shots from behind the arc in Gameday 1.
  • Segrafedo Virtus Bologna blocked 10 shots against Neptunas Klaipeda, a joint-high in a single game in BCL history. They are only the third team ever to have blocked 10+ shots in a single BCL game.




    Players

    • Sidigas Avellino’s Norris Cole scored 34 points against Nizhny Novgorod, the most any player has scored in the BCL opening night. Only Tyrone Brazelton (Rosa Radom) has scored more points in a BCL opening round than Norris Cole (36 vs PAOK in 2016/17).
    • Brose Bamberg’s Tyrese Rice finished the game against Montakit Fuenlabrada with an Efficiency Rating (EFF) of 35, the most among all players in a single match of this Gameday 1. He was the only player finishing with an EFF of 30+.
    • Umana Reyer Venezia’s Gasper Vidmar failed to score against PAOK, his first time with zero point in his 39 BCL appearances.
    • UNET Holon’s Khalif Wyatt finished the game against Fribourg Olympic with 21 points and 11 assists: he was the only player combining for a double-double with points and assists.
    • Neptunas Klaipeda’s Jerai Grant finished the game against Segafredo Virtus Bologna with 21 points and 12 rebounds: he was the only player combining for 20+ points and 10+ rebounds in this season’s Gameday 1.
