Power Rankings: Last checkpoint before the Round of 16 duels take place

MIES (Switzerland) - Play-Offs are here! Time to find the hottest team of the 16 with our Power Rankings -  domestic championships are also taken into consideration.

16

Team: Le Mans
Season record: 19-17
Current form: Won 5 of last 6
Last Power Ranking: 18
Le Mans have been in fine form over the last six games in all competitions, and the all-time best bench scorer in the Basketball Champions League has just joined them - Kendrick Ray could be the ray of light the French champs need against Bologna.

15

Team: Promitheas Patras
Season record: 20-13
Current form: Lost 3 of last 4
Last Power Ranking: 10
Promitheas were blown out by AEK on Saturday, so it remains to be seen how shaken up are they ahead of their Round of 16 debut. Iberostar Tenerife will be ready to take advantage if Promitheas show a glimpse of insecurity.

14

Team: Banvit
Season record: 15-16
Current form: Lost 3 straight
Last Power Ranking: 9
Banvit have gone from being the hottest team all over the universe to being ice cold. Three straight defeats come at a horrible time for the Turkish side, ahead of their trip to Bamberg in the Round of 16.

13

Team: PAOK
Season record: 22-13
Current form: Won 2 of last 3
Last Power Ranking: 13
Be warned - PAOK have won six of their last seven games against AEK. Could we have another 2017 Karsiyaka v Besiktas or 2018 Murcia v Tenerife domestic upset on our hands?

12

Team: Nizhny Novgorod
Season record: 25-17
Current form: Lost 2 of last 3
Last Power Ranking: 19
Nizhny Novgorod and Umana Reyer Venezia will meet in the elimination games for the second time in two seasons. Last time around, Venezia survived Stevan Jelovac onslaught in the FIBA Europe Cup Quarter-Finals and went on to win the trophy. Nizhny will be hungry to hit back...

11

Team: Nanterre 92
Season record: 24-15
Current form: W-L-W-L-W-L
Last Power Ranking: 16
Nanterre are that kind of team which suffers a 23-point defeat to Limoges, only to bounce back and defeat Limoges by 21. Impossible to call, especially in a home-and-away matchup with Besiktas.

10

Team: Segafredo Virtus Bologna
Season record: 21-15
Current form: Lost 3 of last 4
Last Power Ranking: 5
HIS NAME IS RIO AND HE DANCES ON THE SAND, JUST LIKE A RIVER TWISTING THROUGH A DUSTY LAND. AND WHEN HE SHINES HE REALLY SHOWS YOU ALL HE CAN... OH RIO, RIO DANCE ACROSS THE RIO LE MANS.
(Mario 'Rio' Chalmers is officially with Virtus Bologna. Fun times ahead!)

9

Team: Telenet Giants Antwerp
Season record: 28-12
Current form: Won 4 straight
Last Power Ranking: 8
Home cooking always does the trick. Antwerp will play host to UCAM Murcia this week, and they are currently on a six-game winning streak at home. In fact, Antwerp are 17-4 at home this season, which gives them a better winning percentage than the Golden State Warriors have in their own backyard! Antwerp on pace to become world champs. (Okay, maybe not.)

8

Team: UCAM Murcia
Season record: 20-17
Current form: A win followed by a defeat...and the pattern spreads over the last 12 games
Last Power Ranking: 12
I won't mention the fact that UCAM are still in the relegation battles in the Liga Endesa in Spain. So how do you approach their quarrel with Antwerp? Will they need elimination, so they can completely focus on their Spanish League campaign? Or will they chase the Final Four again, to build confidence? UCAM could spin it either way.

7

Team: Umana Reyer Venezia
Season record: 24-11
Current form: Lost 2 of last 3
Last Power Ranking: 4
The city of Venice announced* that the entire region is out of heart medicine because of Umana Reyer Venezia's last three games. They lost by a point, won by a point and went to OT. Clutch kings. Always staying in the game. Which is not what Nizhny Novgorod hoped for.
*Nope. Not true, at all.

6

Team: Neptunas Klaipeda
Season record: 27-1-13
Current form: Lost 2 of last 3
Last Power Ranking: 15
Any team that goes 3-0 against Zalgiris Kaunas (IN A SINGLE SEASON) has to be considered to go deep into the Play-Offs, both in Lithuania and in the Basketball Champions League. I mean... Zalgiris are 0-3 against Neptunas, and 20-0 against teams not named Neptunas in Lithuanian League. Expect 200+ points when they take on Jerusalem in the Round of 16.

5

Team: Iberostar Tenerife
Season record: 25-12
Current form: Lost 3 of last 4
Last Power Ranking: 3
Don't worry about their recent form. Iberostar Tenerife are still more powerful than the chorus on the Foo Fighters Pretender song, more frightening than Stephen King's Boogeyman, and yet more beautiful than the ending of Hacksaw Ridge.

4

Team: Besiktas Sompo Japan
Season record: 20-14
Current form: Won 4 of last 5
Last Power Ranking: 6
Still waiting for Besiktas' first ever impressive Play-offs appearance. They were one of the top Regular Season teams in both Season 1 and Season 2, but never made the Quarter-Finals of the Basketball Champions League!

3

Team: Brose Bamberg
Season record: 28-10
Current form: Won 6 straight
Last Power Ranking: 7
Brose put the BAM! into BAM!Berg with six straight wins in all competitions. Plus a trophy, German Cup, which was their 16th big time trophy over the last nine years. Unreal! Unglaublich!

2

Team: Hapoel Bank Yahav Jerusalem
Season record: 31-8
Current form: Won 8 straight
Last Power Ranking: Who cares, they won 8 straight!!!
Speaking of trophies, Jerusalem celebrated their Cup victory in Israel as a part of an 8 game winning run. Trouble is, they've got a super-tough schedule ahead: Two games against Neptunas are sandwiched between duels with Maccabi Tel Aviv and UNET Holon.

1

Team: AEK
Season record: 27-8
Current form: Won 6 straight
Last Power Ranking: 2
It's the champs of everything! AEK used the club season break in Europe to travel to Brazil and win another piece of silverware, this time in the FIBA Intercontinental Cup. The Queen just keeps on conquering all over the globe...
