Gameday 2 Tuesday Round Up


MIES (Basketball Champions League) - Gameday 2 of the Basketball Champions League opened up on Tuesday, and as expected, was not short of action.

PAOK vs Telekom Baskets Bonn

Telekom Baskets Bonn picked up  100-95 road win over PAOK, playing spoiler in the Greek side's 400th European game.


Ra'Shad James knocked down the dagger three in the final minute to make it an 8 point game, as he finished with 21 points and 6 assists, and Joshua Mayo added 20 and 6 assists of his own, as Bonn bounced back from their Tenerife defeat last week.

Linos Chrysikopoulos went 8-for-11 from the floor for 19 points to lead PAOK, who dropped to 0-2 on the season.

Notable Number: 51.5 - the percentage Bonn shot from the floor, going 35-for-68 overall.



CEZ Nymburk vs AEK

The defending champions prevailed in a double overtime thriller in the Czech Republic, defeating CEZ Nymburk by a single digit, 94-93.


Vassilis Xanthopoulos had a strong defensive stand one-on-one against Eugene Lawrence on the last possession, as the point guard was forced into a tough shot which never reached the rim.

Giannoulis Larentzakis and Jonas Maciulis put on a shooting show, hitting 12-of-17 from beyond the arc between the two of them, the former going 7-for-8. Larentzakis finished with 23 points, Maciulis 21, whilst Xavier Rathan-Mayes dished 11 assists to make up for his 1-of-14 shooting.

Vojtech Hruban had 25 and 9 rebounds for CEZ Nymburk, whilst Jaromir Bohacik finished with 23, including five in the last minute of regulation to force the first extra period.

Notable Number: 13 - the number of assists Eugene Lawrence finished with, a Basketball Champions League season-high.


Hapoel Bank Yahav Jerusalem vs Lietkabelis 

Hapoel secured an 81-67 win over Lietkabelis in the first Basketball Champions League game at the Pais Arena, as they moved to 2-0 in the competition.



The home side dominated the third, and extended their lead to 18 in the fourth as Lietkabelis were unable to get back into the game, stifled on the glass where the home side hauled in 18 offensive rebounds.

James Feldeine's 16 points led the scoring for Hapoel, with Tamir Blatt adding 14 points - including a big three in the fourth - and 6 assists. Ama're Stoudemire grabbed 10 rebounds with 2 steals and 2 blocks in just 17 minutes of play.

Saulius Kulvietis had 17 to lead Lietkabelis, who continue to look for their first victory.

Notable Number: 3 - the total number of field goals J'Covan Brown managed to score, going 3-for-13 overall, as Jerusalem were still able to be victorious.


UCAM Murcia vs Ventspils

UCAM Murcia led by as many as 16 and finished up with a 91-85 win over Ventspils to move to 2-0 on the season.



Taking control in the third for good and not letting Ventspils back in, Murcia rode Askia Booker in the second half, as he ended up with 12 points in just 19 minutes.

Alex Urtasun led the scoring with 15 for the Spaniards, and Emanuel Cate finished with 11.

Ingus Jakovics had a team-high 17 and Aaron Johnson 15 for Ventspils, who fell to 0-2.

Notable Number: 20 - the rebounding differential, as Murcia won the glass 46 to 26.


Segafredo Virtus Bologna vs Filou Oostende

Bologna used a commanding defensive performance on their way to an 89-60 rout over Filou Oostende.



After a competitive opening 10 minutes, Bologna held the visitors to just 3 points in the second period, and outscored them 49-17 across the second and third periods, using their strength in depth.

All 12 players got on the scoresheet for the Italians, led by 15 from Brian Qvale on 7-for-9 shooting.

Yannick Desiron was the only player who managed to reach double figures for Oostende, with 10 points.

Notable Number: 3 - the total number of points Oostende managed to score in the second period.


SIG Strasbourg vs medi Bayreuth

SIG Strasbourg closed the game on a 10-3 run to overturn a three point deficit and secure a 67-63 win over medi Bayreuth to protect home court.



Strasbourg ended up leading for just 51 seconds of the contest, but it was the 51 seconds that mattered most, as they improved to 2-0 in Group 2.

Using all of their experience, Jeremy Nzeulie had five points in the game winning run, and Mike Green was calm from the free throw line, along with having a lead-changing assist to Ali Traoré entering the final minute.

Nicolas Lang led the scoring with 19 points on 6-for-9 shooting, Traore had 17 with 7 rebounds and 3 blocks,  whilst Green stuffed the stat sheet with 12 points, 8 rebounds and 7 assists. 

Adonis Thomas had 18 points to lead medi Bayreuth, who will now look to Gameday 3 to pick up their first win.

Notable Number: 51 - the total number of seconds Strasbourg were leading in the game.
