Everything you need to know before Wednesday's games


MIES, Switzerland (Basketball Champions League) - The third Basketball Champions League season is on! Let's have a look at some key facts before Wednesday's games.

Lietkabelis (LTU) v CEZ Nymburk (CZE)

  • Lietkabelis and CEZ Nymburk are the only winless teams in Group C after the first two BCL games this season.
  • CEZ Nymburk have lost their first two games in BCL in 2018-19 but have never lost three consecutive games in the same BCL season.
  • Lietkabelis and CEZ Nymburk have both scored an average of 25 points in the paint per game a joint-low in BCL this season, alongside MHP Riesen Ludwigsburg.
  • Lietkabelis' Saulius Kulvietis has been Lietkabelis' top scorer with an average of 16 points per game. He has made 3.5 shots from behind the arc per game with a 41.2% scoring ratio from 3-point territory.
  • CEZ Nymburk's Eugene Lawrence made 13 assists against AEK, the most among all players in a single BCL game since January the 9th, 2018: in that day it was also Eugene Lawrence who tallied 13 assists against Telekom Baskets Bonn.

  

AEK (GRE) v Brose Bamberg (GER)

  • AEK have won their two previous home games against a German side in BCL: against Ludwigsburg in 2016/17 and medi Bayreuth last season.
  • AEK have started the 2017-18 BCL season with two consecutive home losses, the only time in BCL history that the Queen have lost two home games in a row. They have started the current season with a home loss against Hapoel Bank Yahav Jerusalem.
  • Brose Bamberg bench unit have scored an average of 46.5 points per game, the second most among all teams in BCL this season.
  • AEK' Giannoulis Larentzakis has scored 23 points against CEZ Nymburk in Gameday 2, the first time in his career that he has scored 20+ points in a BCL game.
  • Brose Bamberg' Tyrese Rice has come from the bench to score an average of 26.5 points per game, the most among any player starting their BCL games in the bench. He has also dished an average of 6.5 assists per game.

 

JDA Dijon (FRA) v Montakit Fuenlabrada (ESP)

  • French and Spanish teams have met 12 times in BCL history, with seven of those 12 games being won by Spanish teams.
  • JDA Dijon have scored (14) and attempted (18) the fewest free-throws among all teams in BCL this season.
  • Montakit Fuenlabrada have allowed their opponents to tally only 3.5 steals per game in BCL, the fewest among all teams in the league in 2018-19.
  • JDA Dijon' Axel Julien has dished 15 assists and has turned the ball over only twice: his 7.5 assists per turnover ratio is the best among all players with 14+ assists in the league.
  • Montakit Fuenlabrada' Francisco Cruz has scored an average of 18 points per game in the BCL this season, while making 66.7% of his shots from behind the arc.

  

Telenet Giants Antwerp (BEL) v Hapoel Bank Yahav Jerusalem (ISR)

  • Telenet Giants Antwerp will make their home debut in BCL: no Belgian team have won their first home game in BCL, as Filou Oostende lost against Juventus Utena (59-69) in 2016-17 and Proximus Spirou lost against Besiktas Sompo Japan (75-92) in the same season.
  • Telenet Giants Antwerp have made 48.1% of their attempted 3-pointers, the most among all teams in BCL this season: only UNET Holon (32) have scored more from behind the arc than the Giants (26) in BCL in 2018-19.
  • Hapoel Bank Yahav Jerusalem have made the fewest turnovers per game (9) among all teams in the BCL this season.
  • Telenet Giants Antwerp' Dave Dudzinski has scored 18+ points in both his BCL games this season, while making 57.1% of his 3PT attempts and 87.5% of his shots from the FT line.
  • Hapoel Jerusalem's Josh Owens has grabbed 10 rebounds in each of his BCL games this season: only two other players have grabbed 10+ rebounds in each of the first two BCL games in 2018-19.

  

Besiktas Sompo Japan (TUR) v SIG Stasbourg (FRA)

  • This will be the 10th time in BCL history that a French side plays in Turkish soil, with the French teams winning four of those 10 games.
  • Besiktas Sompo Japan have won 13 of their 16 BCL home games (D1 L2), with nine of those wins being by a 10+ points margin.
  • SIG Strasbourg have conceded 67 points per game, the second best defensive record in BCL this season, after Iberostar Tenerife (63 PPG).
  • Besiktas Sompo Japan's Ivan Buva has scored an average of 17 points per game in BCL this season, with an average of nine points per game being scored in the paint.
  • SIG Strasbourg's Mike Green scored a tally of 47 points in his two games against Besiktas Sompo Japan, it was with Pinar Karsiyaka in the Round of 16 of the 2016/17 season. He finished best scorer in both those games (25 & 22 points).

  

Petrol Olimpija (SLO) v Segafredo Virtus Bologna (ITA)

  • This will be the third time Petrol Olimpija faces an Italian side in BCL history, having lost both games they played against Umana Reyer Venezia last season by a 10+ points margin.
  • Petrol Olimpija have won only four of their 16 BCL games, with only two of those wins taking place on their home court.
  • Segafredo Virtus Bologna have conceded an average of three shots from behind the arc, the best defensive mark among all teams in BCL this season.
  • Petrol Olimpija's Scottie Reynolds combined for 17 points and eight assists in his BCL debut in 2018-19, finishing the game against Promitheas with 66.7% from 3PT territory (4/6).
  • Segafredo Virtus Bologna's Kevin Punter has scored in double figures in 18 of his last 19 BCL games: this season he averages 19 points per game.

  

Filou Oostende (BEL) v Neptunas Klaipeda (LTU)

  • Filou Oostende will play for the third time against a Lithuanian team, having lost their two games in the 2016-17 season against Juventus Utena.
  • Oostende have allowed their opponents to grab only 5.5 offensive rebounds per game, the joint-best rebounding record in BCL this season, alongside UCAM Murcia.
  • Neptunas Klaipeda have scored only 4.5 points in fast-break situations, the fewest among all BCL teams in 2018-19.
  • Filou Oostende's Nemanja Djurisic has been the only Filou Oostende player scoring 20+ points a single BCL game this season: he scored 20 points against Promitheas in Gameday 1.
  • Neptunas Klaipeda's Jerai Grant has a double-double average, with 17 points and 10.5 rebounds per game in BCL this season.

  

medi Bayreuth (GER) v Promitheas (GRE)

  • This will be the third time in BCL history that medi Bayreuth faces a Greek team: last season the German side have played twice against AEK, winning at home (80-73) and losing on the road (83-81).
  • medi Bayreuth have allowed their opponents to score only 4.0 points per game on second chance points, the fewest among all teams in BCL this season.
  • Promitheas have forced their opponents to make an average of 18.5 turnovers per game, the most among all teams in BCL this season.
  • medi Bayreuth's Adonis Thomas has scored an average of 15 points per game in BCL this season, the best among all medi Bayreuth players with two appearances in 2018-19.
  • Only one player has dished more assists than Promitheas' Nikos Gkikas (16) in BCL this season (Kamil Laczynski, 18 assists).
