Everything you need to know before Wednesday's games


MIES, Switzerland (Basketball Champions League) - The third Basketball Champions League season is on! Let's have a look at some key facts before Wednesday's games.

Anwil (POL) v Nizhny Novgorod (RUS)

  • Anwil scored 99 points during Gameday 1 against Ventspils, the most for a team during its first game in BCL.
  • Nizhny Novgorod became on Gameday 1 the first team to concede 100+ points in its first BCL game.
  • Anwil made more FGs than any other team on Gameday 1 (36) while Nizhny Novgorod suffered 23 successful free-throws, the joint-most conceded by a team during the first games of the season.
  • Anwil's Jakub Parzenski was fouled out during Gameday 1 despite playing only 6 minutes and 49 seconds against Ventspils.
  • Nizhny Novgorod's Kendrick Perry was one of the two players with 20+ points, 5+ rebounds and 5+ assists on Gameday 1 (25pts, 7rds & 6 ast).

 

Neptunas Klaipeda (LTU) v Besiktas Sompo Japan (TUR)

  • Neptunas Klaipeda have only lost three of their 16 home games in BCL, but two of these three losses came in their most recent four home games.
  • Besiktas Sompo Japan have only lost three of their last 14 games in the BCL Regular Season.
  • Neptunas Klaipeda have failed to reach the 80-point mark in their last five BCL games after scoring 80+ points in nine of their previous 11.
  • Neptunas Klaipeda's Jerai Grant finished the game against Segafredo Virtus Bologna with 21 points and 12 rebounds: he was the only player combining for 20+ points and 10+ rebounds in this season's Gameday 1.
  • Besiktas' Joe Alexander has failed to reach the 10-point mark in his last two BCL games, his longest run without scoring double-digit in the competition.

 

Promitheas Patras (GRE) v Petrol Olimpija (SLO)

  • Promitheas can became the third Greek team (out of 4) to win their first two games in BCL.
  • Petrol Olimpija have lost their last five BCL games after having won three of the previous four. Four of these five defeats have seen a margin of 10+ points.
  • Promitheas grabbed fewer rebounds (25) than any other team during the first Gameday.
  • Promitheas' Rion Brown has scored 20+ points in six of his 11 BCL games, including in each of his last four.
  • Petrol Olimpija's Jan Span scored 15 points in the first Gameday, his best tally in 15 BCL games played.

 

MHP Riesen Ludwigsburg (GER) v Sidigas Avellino (ITA)

  • MHP Riesen Ludwigsburg have lost five of their last six BCL games, including the last three. They were leading at half-time in four of these five defeats.
  • MHP Riesen Ludwigsburg have lost their last two home games in BCL, but have never lost three in a row on their court.
  • Sidigas Avellino have won their last game in BCL (against Nizhny Novgorod on Gameday 1) but have not won two in a row since the last two gamedays of the 2016/17 Regular Season.
  • Only six different players managed to grab a rebound in the opening Gameday for Sidigas Avellino, less than any other team. However, Avellino grabbed more defensive rebounds than any other team in Gameday 1 (47).
  • Avellino's Luca Campani scored 12 points and grabbed six rebounds against MHP last season while playing for Capo d'Orlando, his only BCL game with 10+ points and 5+ rebounds.

 

Fribourg Olympic (SUI) v Opava (CZE)

  • Fribourg Olympic have conceded the most 3-pointers during Gameday 1 this season (17).
  • Only three teams made fewer assists than Opava (14) during the first Gameday.
  • Fribourg's Babacar Touré was one of the seven players to record a double-double on Gameday 1 but was the only one among them to have at least one unit in each of the five main stats categories (12pts, 12rds, 3asts, 1 steal, 1 block).
  • Fribourg's Natan Jurkovitz scored only 14% of his free-throws attempted on Gameday 1 (1/7), lowest % among the players with 4+ attempts from the line.
  • Opava's Jakub Sirina (15pts, 6ast) is one of the 10 players to have registered 15+ points and 5+ assists in the first Gameday.

 

Brose Bamberg (GER) v JDA Dijon (FRA)

  • Brose Bamberg could become the fourth (out of 6) German team to lose their first two games in BCL.
  • German teams have lost nine of their 13 BCL games played against French sides.
  • JDA Dijon attempted eight free-throws during Gameday 1, less than any other team.
  • Bamberg's Augustine Rubit grabbed the joint-most offensive rebounds (6) during Gameday 1.
  • Dijon's Jérémy Leloup grabbed five rebounds on Gameday 1. He never managed to reach that number in his 17 games with Strasbourg last season.

 

Umana Reyer Venezia (ITA) v UNET Holon (ISR)

  • Umana Reyer Venezia have only lost one of their 18 home games in BCL, it was against AEK on Gameday 2 last season (101-103).
  • UNET Holon have lost all their seven games played away from home in BCL. In case of a defeat against Umana Reyer Venezia, they will become the team with the most games played away from home (8) without winning a single one.
  • Umana Reyer Venezia have scored 100+ points in four BCL games, more than any other team.
  • Venezia's Gasper Vidmar failed to score in the first Gameday, his first time in a BCL game (39 games).
  • UNET Holon's Khalif Wyatt scored 21 points and made 11 assists on Gameday 1: he was the only player combining a double-double with points and assists.

 

Nanterre 92 (FRA) v Iberostar Tenerife (ESP)

  • Nanterre 92 have lost their last three BCL games, their longest run of defeat in the competition.
  • Iberostar Tenerife are unbeaten in their last five BCL games played against a French team (W4 D1), winning the last three with a double-digit margin.
  • Iberostar Tenerife have won their last seven away games, best current run. In case of a win against Nanterre 92, Iberostar Tenerife would equal the best run of victories away from home in the BCL history (MHP Riesen Ludwigsburg, 8).
  • Iberostar Tenerife were the only team to score more than 60% of theirs FGs attempted on Gameday 1 (65.4%).
  • Nanterre's Julian Gamble has scored 10+ points and grabbed 5+ rebounds in eight of his 14 Regular Season games in BCL, including during Gameday 1 this season (14pts, 5rds v Opava).
