Chrysikopoulos leads PAOK past Tenerife - Gameday 7, Wednesday Round Up


MIES (Switzerland) - There is just a single undefeated team left in the Basketball Champions League after PAOK took down Tenerife and Bologna managed to keep their streak going on Wednesday night.

Here's  a round up of all the action:

Nizhny Novgorod vs MHP Riesen Ludwigsburg

 
Time ran out on Nizhny Novgorod as MHP Riesen Ludwigsburg secured a 76-74 win on the road.

In a game that neither side could gain separation, Karim Jallow went baseline for a big dunk to give Ludwigsburg a four-point cushion with 18 seconds remaining which would be enough for them to pull out the win.

Jordon Crawford had 19 points and 8 assist to lead Ludwigsburg, Owen Klassen had 15 and Kelan Martin finished with 11, as they won their second consecutive game to improve to 2-5.

Kendrick Perry finished with 16 for Nizhny, Christopher Czerapowicz had 13 and Ivan Strebkov had 10 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists, but his squad fell to 3-4.

Notable Number: 18 - the number of lead changes as neither team could gain an edge.

Anwil vs Le Mans

 
Anwil protected their home court with a 76-64 win over Le Mans.

The home side used a 10-0 run bridging the third and fourth quarters, including two three pointers from Szymon Szewczyk, to gain control of the game with a well executed final period.

Chase Simon had 16 points to lead the Polish side, whilst Szewczyk had 11 points in just 9 and a half minutes.

Le Mans were led by 17 points from Petr Cornelie but he needed 18 shots to get them, Valentin Bigote added 14 and Wilfried Yeguete had 12 points and 15 rebounds; 7 on the offensive end, but it would not present Le Mans from falling to 2-5.

Notable Number: 21 - Anwil converted 21 points off Le Mans 19 turnovers, as they got sloppy with the ball.

Lietkabelis vs Montakit Fuenlabrada

 
Lietkabelis registered a comfortable 78-67 win over Montakit Fuenlabrada.

The Lithuanian side pretty much led from start to finish, extending their lead to as many as 15 and pulling away for good in the final period.

Simas Jasaitis' 17 points and 8 rebounds led Lietkabelis, Vaidas Kariniauskas had 13 and Saulius Kulvietis added 12.

Fuenlabrada were led by a 20 point outing from Francisco Cruz and another 12 from Lucas Nogueira.

Lietkabelis improved to 3-4 with the win, whilst Fuenlabrada fell to the same record, having lost their fourth straight after winning their opening three games.

Notable Number: 21 - the number of assists Lietkabelis registered as they distributed the ball effectively.

Besiktas Sompo Japan vs Petrol Olimpija

 
Besiktas Sompo Japan held on for a 94-84 win over Petrol Olimpija.

Besiktas led by as many as 20 before Olimpija fought back, pulling it back to within five early in the fourth before the home side retaliated with a 10-4 run to put the game away.

Samet Geyik's 18 points led five players into double digits for Besiktas, with Robin Benzing adding 17 and Ivan Buva 14, as they improved to 3-4 but remain just outside the post-season spots.

Jan Span's 18 points and 6 assists led five players also into double digits for Olimpija, as Mirza Begic and Miha Lapornik had 14-apiece, as they drop to 1-6.

Notable Number: 84.4 - the percentage Besiktas shot from the free throw line, as they went 27-for-32.

Promitheas Patras vs Segafredo Virtus Bologna

 
Segafredo Virtus Bologna kept their perfect record intact, as they defeated Promitheas Patras 95-85 on the road to improve to 7-0 in Group D.

With Promitheas remaining in striking distance throughout  and having pulled within 3 with less than three minutes remaining, Tony Taylor scored five points to restore an 8 point cushion  and keep his team's undefeated record.

Pietro Aradori scored a team-high 23 on 8-for-11 shooting, Brian Qvale had a 16-point, 12-rebound double-double, Kevin Punter had 13 and Taylor finished with 12.

For Promitheas, who lost their coach Makis Giatras to an ejection in the second half, Michalis Tsairelis had 21 and Christos Saloustros had 16 points and 10 rebounds.

Notable Number: 55.8 - the combined shooting percentage of both teams as they knocked shots down at a remarkable efficiency.

Sidigas Avellino vs Ventspils


Ventspils dominated the fourth quarter for a
88-74 come-from-behind win over Sidigas Avellino.

Trailing by two, the Latvian champions opened the fourth quarter on a 19-2 run to claim their third win of the season.

Rihards Lomazs went 10-for-20 from the field for his game-high 24 points, Aaron Johnson added 14 points and 8 assists, whilst Jonathan Arledge had 12 in 19 minutes before fouling out.

Demetris Nichols and Caleb Green led Sidigas Avellino with 16 each, but it would not be enough to prevent them falling to 5-2.

Iberostar Tenerife vs PAOK

 
Linos Chrysikopoulos was sensational as he led PAOK past Iberostar Tenerife 66-65, ending their previously unbeaten record.

Chrysikopoulos had 24 points on 9-for-11 shooting (6-of-7 from three) and had the decisive game-winning basket, as he got a push shot in the lane to go with 23 seconds remaining.

Yanick Moreira had 12 points and 9 rebounds, and Antonis Koniaris added 8 as PAOK improved to 4-3.

Tenerife, meanwhile, fell to 6-1, receiving 15 points from Sebastian Saiz  and 10 each from Thaddus McFadden and Nicolas Brussino.

Notable Number: 81.8 - Linos Chrysikopoulos' shooting percentage, as he was unstoppable throughout to lead PAOK to victory.

Nanterre 92 vs UNET Holon

 
Khalif Wyatt led UNET Holon past Nanterre 92 with a 82-70 win on the road.

Wyatt went 9-for-12 from the field, registering 28 points along with 7 assists as the visitors led by as many as 19 in a game that proved to be a three-point shoot out.

The two sides combined for 26 three-pointers, as Wyatt led the charge with 6-of-8 from beyond the arc.

Darion Atkins had 22 and 9 rebounds for Holon, and Amit Simhon added 9.

Haukur Palsson and Jeremy Senglin had 14 each to combine for 28 to lead Nanterre.

Notable Number: 52 - the combined shooting percentage of both teams from beyond the arc, as Holon went 12-for-23 and Nanterre 14-for-27.
