Strasbourg stay in hunt for Play-Offs spot with pivotal home win over Umana Reyer

STRASBOURG (Basketball Champions League) - SIG Strasbourg nearly blew a late lead but held on for a 70-67 win over Umana Reyer Venezia in France on Wednesday night to help keep the race to the Play-Offs very tight in Group C.

Miro Bilan had 17 points and 11 rebounds for Vincent Collet's side, which led by as many as 13 points and had a 69-58 advantage with 4:00 remaining.

Venezia clawed their way back and got late a couple of late 3-pointers from Stefan Tonut to close the gap to 69-67 in the final minute.

After Zack Wright made just one of two free-throws, the Italian club had a chance to knot the game but missed with their last opportunity.

Collet and his players were not all smiles as they left the court. Umana Reyer had won the first encounter by 11 points so Walter De Raffaele's side has the advantage in a potential head-to-head tie-breaker at the end of the Regular Season.

As it is, Banvit (8-3) and Movistar Estudiantes (7-4) are in first and second place, respectively, in Group C after winning their games on this week. Umana Reyer, medi Bayreuth, Strasbourg and AEK Athens (all 6-5) occupy positions 3 through 6. Only the top four teams in the standings will progress to the playoffs.

"At the end, we had a chance to have a 12-point difference," Bilan said. "But this game was like a final. If we had lost, it would have been over for us. I think we showed heart. It's a big win for us, even though we didn't succeed to do so by the bigger margin."

Dee Bost finished with 12 points, 6 assists and 3 steals for Strasbourg and Wright added 7 points, 8 rebounds and 3 steals.
