Strasbourg hold off second half comeback from Estudiantes in thriller

STRASBOURG (Basketball Champions League) - Strasbourg managed to hold on against Estudiantes with a 77-74 victory in Group C action on Tuesday night.

After leading by as many as 24 points and appearing comfortably in control in the early stages, Strasbourg breathed a sigh of relief when Omar Cook's last gasp three-point attempt bounced off the rim in the dying seconds to end Estudiantes' hopes of an improbable come-from-behind victory.

Michael Dixon had 13 points, 5 rebounds and 10 assists to lead Strasbourg, Miro Bilan led the scoring with 16 points, and Logan added 15.

Omar Cook had 14 points and led Estudiantes' charge, whilst Nik Caner-Medley added 14 of his own, despite shooting 4 of 13 from the floor.

Strasbourg opened the game on a 16-2 run and were in cruise control, as they dominated the contest from the outset.

Louis Labeyrie set the tone early, pouring in 10 points and 5 rebounds in the opening period, as the home side led 25-7 after one.

Strasbourg continued where they left off in the second quarter, dominating the first half to lead 45-26 at halftime, having shot just short of 63% from the field.

The second half, however, was a different story. Estudiantes woke up after the break, opening on a 10-2 run to begin the third quarter, and get the lead down to single digits behind the play of Omar Cook who knocked down two triples on his way to 8 points in the quarter.

The Spanish side kept on pouring it on in the fourth. Trailing by 11 to open the period, Hakanson came alive, knocking down threes and finding his teammtes as they had pulled to within three, 64-61, with six minutes to play.

From there, every time Estudiantes appeared to be gaining ground, Strasbourg came up with an answer. With the lead down to 1 on multiple occasions in the waning moments, Strasbourg kept their cool to pull out the win.
